Statement

Auslan

(Michelle Rees)

In Term 1, students will be introduced to Auslan. They will learn how they can use their hands, bodies and facial expressions to communicate. We will begin to look into deaf culture and how and why people communicate using sign language. The topics we will cover this term include school signs, colours, family names and Easter. We will also begin to look at fingerspelling. Each lesson will be very hands-on involving lots of games, songs and role-play. We will celebrate the school values of Kindness, Respect, Aspiration and Grit, as we acknowledge our own achievements, as well as those of our peers.

Performing Arts

(Peter Humphreys)

This term, students will dive into the wonderful world of drama and music, building confidence, creativity, and collaboration along the way. In drama, they will develop their speaking and listening skills through fun and interactive games, imaginative storytelling, and character exploration. Through improvisation, students will bring stories to life, exploring different emotions and enhancing their expressive skills. In music, students will engage with movement and dance while discovering key musical elements such as tempo, dynamics, and pitch. They will experience music in a hands-on way, making learning both active and enjoyable. Bringing drama and music together, students will create sound stories—an exciting opportunity to blend creativity across disciplines while strengthening teamwork and cooperation skills. Most importantly, they’ll have a fantastic time learning and expressing themselves in a supportive and dynamic environment!

Visual Arts

(Amanda West)

In Term 1, Foundation will embark on their creative journey by engaging with the book Let’s Play by Hervé Tullet. They will explore the various lines and primary colours featured in the book and create their own unique artwork in response. Students will deepen their understanding of colour theory through hands-on painting activities, learning to mix primary and secondary colours. One of their pieces will be showcased in a whole-school display, inspired by artist Jen Stark’s vibrant and colourful murals. The elements of line, shape, and texture will be further developed during a printmaking project, where students will use a stamp printing technique to create a robot-themed artwork. This activity will encourage them to experiment with shapes and features while refining their creative skills. Throughout the term, students will have regular opportunities to share and discuss their work, as well as appreciate the art created by their peers.

Physical Education (P.E)

(Chris Steele)

In Term 1, students will focus on exploring movement and physical activity. Participation will include minor games and

activities to develop fundamental motor skills particularly catching, kicking and skipping. This will be explored through the

use of body and space awareness with equipment such as hoops, beanbags, soft balls and ropes.
