Message from the Principal

Dear Families,
This week, we shared the sad news of the death of Reece Pedretti, husband of Sian and father of Huw (Gr 4) and Paddy (Gr 2), who passed away after a long battle with cancer.
May we be especially mindful of each other at this sad time, and we pray that our faith will provide us with guidance and support.
Our school community is an amazing place where people come together to show support, kindness and genuine care for those around them and those in need. Please keep Sian, Huw, Paddy and their extended family in your prayers. This week, we walk more slowly, breathe more deeply and speak more softly... remembering to find joy in the little things.
Magnify Sandhurst
Over the past 20 school days, I have spent time in every class observing both English and Mathematics classes using OCHRE and InitiaLit. The learning and growth of both students and teachers during this time have been extraordinary. The professional manner in which the content is believed is great, and the exposure to excellent literature is reassuring, but the most exciting thing is the way your children are engaging with that process.
Behavioural issues during teaching time are almost non-existent. Children are getting the work done, following classroom procedures and routines and are challenging themselves even when it is tricky. I am incredibly proud of both the students and the staff for embracing this change and adapting their teaching and learning styles. Please keep talking to your children about their learning, the text they are reading, the handwriting they are practising, and the maths concept they focus on. When we are all engaged in the processes, the learning deepens.

Supervision Hours
Please note the schoolyard is unsupervised before 8:30am. There were many, many children on the grounds prior to this time. For the safety of your children, I am asking that they are not dropped off at school before 8:30am.
School Crossing (REPEAT)
Thank you to the parents and school community members who have voiced their concerns regarding the Lowndes St School Crossing and have sent letters of concern to the COGB. I am so grateful for your support with this issue.
As a school, we have an additional staff member on duty at the gate to support students crossing in groups. Beck, our council crossing support, is fantastic and will continue to work with us for Term 1. If you park your car and wait for your children to cross the road, we encourage you to meet your child at the gate and walk with them across the road.
I will keep you updated on any new developments in this space.
Personal Device Policy (REPEAT)
Thank you for your support with this new initiative. The students have responded positively to the changes regarding their devices.
Reminder: Each classroom in Years 5 & 6 has a lockbox for student devices, and Students in Foundation to Year 4 will need to bring personal devices to the office for safekeeping.
Our procedures are aligned with those set out by CESL.
I appreciate your support with this change.
