Principal News - Term 1 Week 3

This week you may have noticed a message of congratulations to our students on our electronic board. This was in response to a wonderful second week. Across the school there is a lovely sense of calm. Students are engaged and enthusiastic about their new classes and teachers are reporting a positive start up program across all year levels.

PST conferences were held yesterday. Our teachers appreciated the information that you shared with them to maximise your children’s engagement in their learning. As we mentioned at our Parent Information sessions, we are always striving to work in partnership with our families and PST conferences provide another opportunity to engage with one another.

Sunscreen Reminder

Thank you for sending your children to school with sunscreen applied. After 4 hours students reapply, school supplied sunscreen prior to going outside. We ask that you check over the weekend that your child knows how to reapply sunscreen as staff are not permitted to physically apply any lotions to students. Please take 10 minutes on the next appropriate day to observe your child apply sunscreen to ensure that they are able to protect themselves when offered our sunscreen. Teachers always supervise the distribution and support students to ‘ get all the vulnerable areas’ but it is noticeable to us when children have been actively shown by a parent how to correctly apply sunscreen to themselves. This is a big help when 22 people are trying to simultaneously protect themselves prior to going out to play.

We need your help

For several years now, one of our families has been working diligently on a proposal to have a safe crossing point installed over the railway line to link members of the community on both sides of Coolabah Reserve. This would reduce walking time for our families significantly, as well as provide a quick walking link for our families wanting to walk in the Research direction. It would improve safety for students walking toward Research and eliminate the need for travel along Wattletree Rd. A safe crossing point is overdue and we ask you to consider supporting the proposal and signing the change.org petition below.

Swimming Carnival

Our school swimming carnival will be held this afternoon. Some students have been preparing for this for some time and were visibly excited this morning! This is our year 3 students’ first carnival, and we wish them a fun time. Highlights of the carnival will be shared in next week’s newsletter.

Working bee

On Sunday we will be holding our first working bee. We are grateful to the large number of families that have volunteered so far, and we invite you to join us for a sausage sizzle at the half way point. If you can spare some time to improve our playground areas, we would be grateful. Please click on the link to let us know if you can come:

School Council

Next Thursday we will be holding our first School Council meeting for the year, and we welcome our new members. One of our first tasks will be to update our member profile information so that you know who to contact if you would like to have an issue raised at council.

Wishing all of our families a lovely weekend and hope that you have something fun planned for the significantly more comfortable weather forecasted!
