2024 English Updates

This year the NSW English K-10 Syllabus has vital requirements for student learning and the NSW Education Standard Authority mandates specific requirements that schools need to adhere to. This year at OLSS all staff have engaged in professional development to ensure that teaching and learning is core to all literacy lessons to optimise students' learning.

Why is it important to read daily?

As the year draws to a close and the holidays are almost upon us it is timely to remind all parents to encourage their children to read daily over the holidays. It should not be seen as a chore but actually a wonderful way to relax away from a screen to stimulate the mind. Reading and comprehension are life long skills that are used in every facet of life and being competent is vital! Happy Holiday Reading!

Research states:

The link between reading and success is thought to be driven by the desire for knowledge. Reading makes us better thinkers by improving our critical thinking and problem-solving skills, boosting our general and specific knowledge and developing our social and communication skills.
