VCE Indonesia Trip

Before the school term began, VCE Indonesian students embarked on a 10-day trip to Indonesia as part of their language and cultural immersion program. Accompanied by Ibu Guru Timi, Pak Guru Survi, and Mr Sakell, seventeen Year 11 students explored Java Island.
Their journey included a visit to Dwiwarna Boarding School in Bogor, as well as trips to Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, and the vibrant city of Bandung.

The VCE Indonesian tour was an unforgettable experience that I gained so much from. Staying at SMA Dwiwarna Boarding School in Bogor was truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It was incredible to see life through the eyes of a local Indonesian student while practising my language skills with the new friends I made.
The students at SMA Dwiwarna were so welcoming and made every evening enjoyable as we shared language, games, and aspects of our daily lives from our own countries. I particularly enjoyed the excursions, such as the Presidential Palace tour, where I had the chance to learn about Indonesia’s fascinating history while being immersed in the country itself.
Throughout the trip, we visited several Indonesian cities, including Jakarta, Bogor, and Bandung, each with its own unique character, beauty and vibrant atmosphere. There was never a dull moment!

This was one of the best trips Huntingtower has to offer. I appreciated that we were not overly exposed to Indonesia’s heat and that we could take rest breaks under the air conditioning.
Living at the boarding school, despite the challenges of mosquitoes and other unfamiliar conditions, was a truly immersive experience. I almost felt guilty that the students at Dwiwarna spoke fluent English while we could only understand small parts of their everyday conversations. Everyone at Dwiwarna was incredibly friendly and always willing to help when needed. It was an amazing community, and witnessing their discipline in waking up for apel pagi and singing anthems together was truly unifying.
We made so many memories, and my friends and I have already connected with our new friends on social media. Beyond language learning, exploring Indonesia’s scenery was made even more enjoyable with comfortable transport, such as golf carts at Taman Mini and visits to the botanical gardens.
Apart from a few mosquito bites, I have no complaints – and I am sure no one else does either!

Spending the holidays in Indonesia was one of the best experiences I have had in a long time. My favourite part of the trip was exploring the botanical gardens in Bogor, where we learned about the pohon jodoh, or ‘soulmate tree’—a tree that promises success to couples who visit it.
While travelling through Indonesia’s rich and diverse culture was fascinating, the most memorable part of the trip was the time spent with friends and the learning experiences along the way. Visiting malls, having small interactions with locals, and trying fun tourist activities like go-karting were definite highlights.

The 2025 VCE Indonesian trip was a truly unforgettable experience. Along with learning about Indonesia’s culture and history, the highlight of the trip was the many new friendships we formed along the way.
Getting to know the students and teachers at Dwiwarna High School while immersing ourselves in their daily school life was a unique and valuable opportunity. I am incredibly grateful for this experience, and it is undoubtedly one of the standout moments of the trip.
