From the Principal

"Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding."
Proverbs 4:7
Welcome to what will be a wonderful year at Huntingtower.
A warm welcome to all our students and families, especially those joining us in Prep, Year 5, Year 7 and across other year levels. We are delighted to have you as part of our vibrant school community.
2024 was a remarkable year, marked by outstanding academic achievements. Huntingtower was ranked 2nd in the state, with an average ATAR of 93.55 and 11 perfect study scores - a testament to the breadth of excellence across all subjects. However, these results are not just about academics; they are the product of dedication, teamwork and the willingness to embrace opportunities.
At Huntingtower, success is not confined to the classroom. It grows from a deep understanding of oneself, knowing what you stand for and working together towards a common goal. When students engage fully, whether it be in the classroom or one of the many other extra-curricular activities available, they cultivate a mindset that leads to achievement in all areas of life.
As we embark on 2025, I encourage every student to get involved. To explore their passions, step outside their comfort zones and contribute to the collective spirit that makes our school exceptional. Whether it's orchestras, ensembles, choirs, debating, public speaking, Duke of Ed, sport or our thriving House program, there is something for everyone. What better way to kick things off than with our House Swimming Carnival at MSAC on 21st February!
At our Commencement Assembly, we were privileged to hear from Mr Kevin Parkyn, a Huntingtower alumnus (Class of 1987), proud Huntingtower parent and Victoria’s Emergency Services Meteorologist. He shared his journey from a reluctant public speaker to someone who needs to deliver media briefings on a regular basis, particularly in times of crisis when people are looking for answers. Kevin’s experience reminds us that success is often found in the courage to keep going, to stay open to new opportunities and to never stop learning.
This year’s theme, The Time for Thinkers Has Come, is taken from the Preface of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. It challenges us to think deeply, question intelligently and engage meaningfully with the world around us. Thinking is not passive, it requires effort and a willingness to grapple with the facts presented. It is a responsibility that each of us needs to embrace.
Here’s to a year of thinking deeply, embracing opportunities and uplifting one another. I look forward to seeing many of you at the P&F Welcome BBQ on February 14th, where we will come together as a school community.
Let’s make 2025 extraordinary!
Mrs Shan Christensen
