Dear Parents and Carers
I hope you’ve had a relaxing and enjoyable Summer! I am thrilled to welcome you and your child/ren to the new school year at Jacana School for Autism! Term 1 brings fresh opportunities for growth and learning. Our teachers are eager to meet each student where they are, building on their strengths and supporting areas of development. I encourage you to engage with your child about their experiences and keep communication open with us throughout the year.
The Primary students have settled into the new school year very well and are becoming familiar with some new faces and a new classroom. It has been exciting to see our Prep students begin their first year of school and start to learn the routines and expectations of the school day. Our students have especially enjoyed their Morning Circle time, which includes coming together to talk about what's happening each day and how we are feeling.
As we embark on this exciting journey together, I want to share a few important updates and reminders to ensure a smooth start for everyone:
It is important that parents and carers encourage regular bedtime routines to support good sleeping patterns, as it can be tiring for children to adapt from being at home during the holidays to coming back to school. We thank you for your support.
SSGs:
SSGs are taking place during Week 3, 4 and 5. This is a great opportunity to share information about your child that you feel may be of importance to the staff in your child’s room. You may also like to discuss any additional supports you have accessed or collaborate on potential goals you would like to see for your child. Please look out for a letter coming home soon.
Assemblies:
Assemblies will be taking place with classrooms sharing the responsibility to organise and host these.
Communication is key. Please ensure you make contact with the classroom teacher, ES staff or the office in the event you are making a change to your child’s schedule, particularly when it comes to pick ups and drop offs.
As always, your child’s teacher is always the first point of call when it comes to concerns or questions. As a sub-school we pride ourselves on creating a sense of community for students within our classrooms. Throughout this year we hope to continue to build students' capacity to work alongside others, develop friendships and foster independence. As parents, guardians and people close to the students we work with, you play a crucial role in shaping students' lives, and we greatly value your input. In close partnership we hope to work alongside you to make this year one of growth and happiness for your child.
Some final things to remember
Parents and carers, please ensure that:
We are excited to see our students grow, and we can’t wait to make this year unforgettable. Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Let’s make it a fantastic year together!
Warm regards,
Michelle Davies
Welcome to all our new preps! Room 1 has been settling into the classroom, getting to knoweach other and staff. We have enjoyed exploring activities on letter recognition and counting, as well as learning how to use and complete schedules. Room 1 look forward to an exciting year ahead.
