Magic and Masterchefs-in-the-Making in 5/6S

Students at 5/6S have enjoyed a magical and hands-on learning experience this week as part of their ongoing Harry Potter unit and Year 6 transition activities. Over the past few weeks, 5/6S students have been designing and creating their own personalised wands inspired by Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Using only clay and a chopstick, students shaped unique wand handles, carved patterns, and added magical details that reflected the personalities of their favourite characters. Some students chose intricate spirals while others created bold, textured designs.

Meanwhile, Year 6 students continued preparing for their transition to high school by taking part in a “taster day” at Bonnyrigg High School. This week’s focus was Food Technology, where students stepped into a real high school kitchen to learn basic cooking and safety skills. Under the guidance of high-school staff, students created their own mini pizzas, experimenting with toppings and exploring how different ingredients can change flavour and texture. These two experiences have helped students develop skills in both creativity and independence, while also building excitement for next year. Between wand-making and pizza-making, 5/6S showed just how creative, adventurous, and hungry for learning they truly are.  A magical week indeed!
