 SPOTLIGHT ON THE CLASSROOMS

K-2 Classroom

For the last three weeks, our K-2 students have been learning all about division—which is just a fancy way of saying sharing equally!

We practised division in two main ways:

  • Sharing: We took a big pile of things and divided them equally among a certain number of groups to see how many were in each (for example, sharing 10 crayons among 5 friends).

  • Grouping: We took a big pile of things and saw how many equal groups we could make (for example, how many groups of 2 cars we could make from 8 cars).

They did a fantastic job!

We had extra fun with division by using the echidna spikes they made out of playdough. The children were busy sharing and grouping their spikes! Please enjoy seeing their cool playdough echidna spikes and hearing about how they are learning to share!

3 - 6 Classroom

Our  3 – 6 students have been exploring chance and probability in Mathematics, focusing on conducting experiments, identifying outcomes, and observing the variation in results. They engaged in hands-on practice, using coin flips to explore 50/50 or even chance and discussing how actual short-term results can differ from long-term predictions. Students then progressed to dice rolling, where they analysed the reduced probability of specific results (like rolling a '6') and collected data to see if their actual outcomes aligned with predictions over many trials.

The unit culminated in a creative project in which students designed their own probability games using spinners or coloured blocks, requiring them to define the winning chance, predict player outcomes, and test their systems, successfully moving from calculating odds to designing systems based on mathematical probability.

Library

As the 2025 school year wraps up, it's time to gather up all those great books you've been reading! Please check under your beds, in your drawers, and on your bookshelves and return all library books to the library by Wednesday, 10th December at the latest. This will help us get ready for an amazing year of reading in 2026! Borrowing will pause for the rest of 2025 and resume in 2026.
