When did you graduate?

I graduated from Glenroy College in 2019.

What was your pathway of study?

I did not initially score highly enough in the UCAT to enter graduate-entry medicine, so I completed a Bachelor of Science at Monash University, majoring in Physiology with a minor in Anatomy. Studying at Monash allowed me to access their internal pathway into postgraduate medicine without needing to sit the GAMSAT, which ultimately enabled me to pursue my goal of becoming a doctor.

How did the scholarship assist you?

The scholarship has been an immense support throughout my studies. I began my Bachelor’s degree during the COVID-19 pandemic and was let go from my job at the time, while also being ineligible for study allowance payments. The grant helped me purchase a new laptop, as well as essential equipment and textbooks.

Since entering medicine, it has continued to support me with the significant costs of moving out of home, living in rural areas, increased commuting, and purchasing household necessities. Medical training is particularly expensive, especially when relocating frequently for placements, and it can be very difficult to maintain employment. I am extremely grateful to Carole and Glenroy College for supporting students like myself in pursuing our goals.

What are you hoping for in the future?

I hope to successfully complete my medical degree and begin working as a doctor. When time permits, I would also love to support and mentor other students through their educational journeys. I remember feeling lost and uncertain when applying for university, particularly as a first-generation university student, and I would like to help others navigate that process with greater confidence.
