Community & Positive Environment

9E & 10E Beach Safety Day
9E and 10 E had the final workshop on beach safety, the Altona Beach day, where they were able to put their theory into practice. The program focused on learning vital beach and water safety skills, including reading beach conditions, swimming between the flags, and understanding what to do in an emergency. Students took part in hands-on activities with lifesavers and worked together in team challenges that built confidence, communication, and trust.
Before boarding the bus, we had just 12 students with their bathers ready to go — but by the time we hit the sand and were ready to get in the water, that number had grown to 29! It was fantastic to see so many students eager to jump in and take part in our Beach Safety Day.
For many of our EAL students, it was their first time at the beach — and the smiles, laughter, and enthusiasm said it all. Everyone embraced the day with positivity and a willingness to learn.
A huge thank you to the lifesavers and staff who supported the day and made it such a success. Also a big thanks to Nicole, Lily, Du Way and Kaw who supported the program! A special shoutout to Lily who also jumped in her bathers and participated with the students. Such an important life skill opportunity for these students.
Students in Years 7–9 immersed themselves in an exciting and highly engaging three-day outdoor program from Monday through Wednesday, rotating between stand-up paddleboarding, volleyball, and an interactive beach safety and first-aid session. The turnout across all three days was exceptional, with large numbers of students participating and showing enthusiasm, teamwork, and a real willingness to step outside their comfort zones.
The stand-up paddleboarding experience was a standout highlight, with many students trying the activity for the very first time. Laughter, balance challenges, and plenty of big moments of success created an atmosphere of fun and encouragement on the water. Volleyball sessions offered high-energy competition and collaboration, giving students the chance to sharpen their skills while building strong connections with classmates. The beach safety and first-aid workshop added an important educational component, equipping students with practical knowledge they can use in real-life situations, such as identifying hazards, responding in emergencies, and understanding how to stay safe around water.
Student feedback throughout the week was overwhelmingly positive. Many students described the experience as “the best excursion ever!”, while others asked, “Can we do it again?” One student summed up the value of the program perfectly by saying, “I always wanted to learn first aid.” Their excitement, engagement, and pride in what they achieved made the program a memorable highlight of the term.
A heartfelt thank-you goes out to all staff, who assisted across the three days—your organisation, enthusiasm, and care ensured every student had a safe and enjoyable experience. We also extend our sincere appreciation to Surfing Victoria, whose generous funding made this program possible and provided our students with meaningful learning opportunities that will stay with them well beyond the week.
Werribee Zoo Fun Day: Years 7, 8 & 9 Roar into Adventure!
Our Year 7, 8 and 9 students enjoyed an unforgettable day at Werribee Open Range Zoo, filled with sunshine, excitement, and plenty of animal encounters. The highlight of the day was without a doubt the Safari Tours, which were a massive hit with students and staff alike. From spotting rhinos grazing across the plains to getting up close to giraffes and zebras, the tour offered an incredible opportunity to learn outside the classroom in a truly unique environment.
Students also enjoyed the freedom to explore the zoo at their own pace, discovering different habitats, experiencing interactive exhibits, and building memories with their friends throughout the day.
A huge thank you goes out to all staff who supported the event. Whether you supervised at key locations, or helped guide students around the zoo, your efforts ensured the day ran smoothly and safely. Your support made this experience both educational and fun for everyone involved.
Overall, it was a fantastic day of learning, teamwork, and adventure — one we’re sure students won’t soon forget!
As we wrap up another incredible year, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the many achievements, events and moments that made 2025 so memorable for our school community. From inspiring excursions and standout sporting successes to student leadership initiatives and whole-school celebrations, this year has been filled with opportunities for growth, connection and pride.
Students across all year levels embraced challenges, supported one another, and consistently represented Wyndham Central with respect and enthusiasm. Our staff went above and beyond—whether organising major events, leading excursions, guiding learning, or supporting wellbeing—to ensure every student had opportunities to shine.
Thank you to our dedicated staff, families, and students for your continued support and commitment. Together, we’ve created a year full of learning, fun, and community spirit. We look forward to an even bigger and better year ahead in 2026!
Gear Up Program
I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the fantastic work completed through our Gear Up program, a re-engagement initiative led by Sandy Pine.
During the year, 4 students participated in a hands-on bike restoration project. Throughout the program, they showed commitment, teamwork, and real pride in their work. Their efforts truly paid off—each student did such an outstanding job that they were gifted one of the restored bikes to keep!
As we wrap up the program, I’d like to congratulate the students for their dedication and positive attitude. This has been a wonderful example of how meaningful, practical learning experiences can build confidence and connection.
