Year 4

Spotlight on Learning

Jericho Community

Dear Families,

Its gearing up to be a very busy final week, full of celebrations, getting ready for year 5 and completing our learning while enjoying the last week with our 2025 classroom family.

A huge congratulations to the 4C class for winning a Pizza Party through our recent Battery Blitz sponsored by Casey Council.  On Monday all the students will have pizza throughout the community, with 4C earning a special treat for their huge collection of batteries from their households.

Our Learning

English:

This week we began the poem "Mulga Bill's Bicycle', Banjo Patterson.  We looked at homophones such as rein, reign and rain, vocabulary such as pride, fright, awful and encounter, and Literary devices used in the text such as onomatopoeia, personification, rhyme and rhythm, irony and hyperbole.  Next week the students will complete a post assessment while creating a range of poems to celebrate the holiday season.  It is time for the students to put into practice what they have learnt.

Mathematics:

This week students learned about pictographs and column graphs, created their own and interpreted examples. Next week the students will finish up their learning.

Religious Education:

We are really practicing hard for our presentation of the 'Little Drummer Boy' for Carols performances on the 9th December.  Next week we will look at Weeks 3 and 4 of Advent.

Social & Emotional Learning & Integrated Studies:

This week, students practiced different ways they have learned to manage stress.  Each student connects with different strategies that work for them and put them into practise.  With the holidays around the corner, its time to plan how we are going to relax, reconnect and recharge.  Students will be working out activities they can do by themselves inside or outside their house, activities students can do with others inside or outside their house and finally activities that we could do with our family outside the house.  These activities need to be free!
