Bethlehem Community

Dear Families & Friends,

The highlight of the week had to be our excursion to Bergen Reserve and then Bounce in Keysborough.  It is very clear the students and teachers had a fantastic day.

Government Secondary Schools hold their transition day on the 9th December.  When students are out at transition, we carry on with teaching and learning activities in the classrooms and communities.  Last week when we had a lot of students attending St Peters the remaining students kept problem solving with STEM activities.

OUR LEARNING:

Religious Education:

Students continue to learn and reflect on the scripture connections to Advent, with a particular focus on the Love Candle.  We are also undertaking detailed preparation for our Leadership Mass occurring next week on Wednesday.  We invite all our families to join us at our final Mass for our primary school years at St Thomas the Apostle church at 9.30am on Wednesday 10th December.

"Can You See Me" has concluded with Tally beginning to recognize the impact she has on others, that good people like her for who she actually is.  Tally was also allowed to adopt the dog Rupert which was a lovely way to finish the book.  Students had a quick look at the information about the authors of the book, in particular Libby Scott.  She was just 11 years old when she wrote her first published essay, before joining with Rebecca Westcott to help her write this book.  Libby is now 17 years old, is proud to share her experiences of living with Autism while also being an advocate for those who live on the Spectrum.

Mathematics:

This  week Students looked at Data.  After reviewing concepts, they began an end of term project to decide on a fictional way to improve the schools grounds and resources.  They will need to back their decisions up with the use of data, presenting it in the best way possible to prove their choice.  Below is a selection of photo's from our recent unit.

Integrated Studies:

This term's topic is 'Taking Charge of my Health'.  This week the students reflected about what they had learned over the topic.

Social & Emotional Learning:

This week students learned about journaling and how it can be used as an effective way to manage stress.  Students had a go at journaling themselves using prompts to guide them along the way.
