SPEELLINK (oops)  SPELINK (oops again)  SPELLING ARRIVES IN FOUNDATION!!!

After some intense phonics work as part of our Initial Lit program, students in Foundation have begun to blend sounds together to spell words. It's been such an amazing experience (for the teachers as well!) and the students confidence is both growing and evident. When I told them that they were spelling they nearly hit the roof with excitement!

Wowee.

Discovery Time

Foundation students spend time most afternoons in Discovery, a space where creativity, teamwork and imagination thrive. The students love making, designing, playing, creating, role-playing, etc but also get opportunities to develop other skills, such as sharing, collaborating, working together and negotiating. Here's some pics from today's session.

Year 1

Italian Spotlight:

In Italian the Grade 1 students, are exploring the magical world of Pinocchio. The students have listened to and engaged with the classic tale of the wooden puppet who dreamed of becoming a real boy. Through this captivating story, students are developing their listening comprehension, expanding their Italian vocabulary, and gaining a deeper cultural appreciation for this beloved Italian classic. They also enjoy interacting with each other by repeating well-known Italian expressions from the story, such as “Mamma mia,” and participating in creative, hands-on activities like making their own Pinocchio cut-outs. The students will be exploring greetings and introductions, learn the names of body parts, colours, and counting.

Year 2/3

A Winter Welcome,

It has been a chilly start to Winter outside but inside we are buzzing around keeping warm and cosy with learning and laughter taking place. In a week we have so many lessons and a key lesson we pride ourselves in is Wellbeing. The Wellbeing lessons are designed to support the whole child and the waves of emotions they may feel. In Wellbeing, we have been looking at ‘Our Positive Coping Strategies’ please enjoy the photos below and talk to your families about them. Have a lovely longgggg weekend and see you all on WEDNESDAY!

Year 3/4

Life in Year 3/4 has been busy with preparations for the school performance. We have been singing songs and practising the dances. This afternoon we had Lauren and Aleisha (Year 6) come and help the Y2/3 and Y3/4's with the first song dance and the finale.

Year 4/5

We’ve had a fantastic week in Year 4/5, filled with learning, creativity, and collaboration. The students have been actively engaged in their classroom learning, while also working hard in preparation for our upcoming school musical.

We’ve been busy practising our speaking parts, learning the choreography for our dances, and rehearsing the songs with great energy and enthusiasm. It’s been wonderful to see the students building confidence, supporting one another, and having fun as they bring the performance to life.

We’re so proud of their efforts and can’t wait to share their hard work with you soon!

Italian Spotlight - Describing Ourselves in Italian!

This term, our Grade 4/5 students have been working hard in Italian, building their vocabulary and learning how to talk about themselves using full sentences.

They are using:

  • Adjectives to describe their appearance and personality
  • Phrases to say their age, like "Ho dieci anni" (I am ten years old)
  • Expressions of likes and dislikes, such as "Mi piace il gelato" (I like ice cream) and "Non mi piace la pioggia" (I don’t like the rain)
  • Simple sentence structures to put all their ideas together in a paragraph

This activity encouraged the students to put everything they’ve learned into practice and show off their growing confidence with the language.

Year 5/6

In Art sessions on Fridays with Ann, students have been exploring their creativity through collage-making. Using magazines, they selected a variety of colours, textures and images to craft unique and expressive backgrounds. To personalise their work, each student then decorated their collage with their name, using bold designs and thoughtful placement.
