Around the School Happenings

New - Sorry Day

Yesterday we held a flag raising and smoking ceremony to start our day. We thank Billy Cooper for leading us with the smoking ceremony. In class, students learnt about the significance of this day and they created a handprint to reflect on what Sorry Day means. This has been displayed on the windows outside the Marian Centre.

New - Grade 1/2 Mass

Grades 1 and 2 attended Mass last Friday. Thank you to Fr Adin for celebrating Mass with us.

Well done to all the students for remembering all that we have been learning about Pentecost and the Holy Spirit!

New - Sorry Day Service

St Mary's FIRE Carriers and our indigenous students in Yr 5/6 attended the Sorry Day Commemorative Service in Shepparton on Monday.

New - 5/6 Division Sport

The 5/6’s recently participated in Division Sport, they all had a great day and represented St Mary's beautifully!

Well done to the students who participated in the various team sports - footy, soccer and netball.

A special mention to Susan’s netball team that made it through to the grand final!

New - 5/6 Spelling

This week during spelling in 5/6, our focus has been on using the prefixes ‘anti’ and ‘non’. We have also been practicing our reading fluency, and focusing on using more expression when we read aloud.

New - 5/6 Explore 3D Shapes

This fortnight, some of the 5/6’s started exploring 3D shapes in maths, and looking at the cross section. The students used playdough and fishing line to cut the shapes and investigate this!

They also played some fraction games to finish off their fractions topic!

New - Mitch Tambo Incursion

On Wednesday 14th May, we were honoured to have Mitch Tambo, a proud Gamilaraay man, who blends traditional Aboriginal sounds and language with contemporary beats and production. All the students and teachers thoroughly enjoyed listening to his music and were captivated by his dance moves and the use of didgeridoo during his songs.

New - Bravehearts Session

Last week our P-3 students attended the Bravehearts Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure Show. Our youngest students were very excited to see Ditto and to join in the singing. Ditto teaches young children essential personal safety skills using age-appropriate language, song, and dance.

Recently, St Mary's School has become an agent for Foodshare. We are able to assist with some food items for families in the Mooroopna area. We have prepacked frozen meals that are great for people who are ill. We are also able to provide some food supplies. Each week we receive a selection of groceries, fruits and vegetables.
