News from the Chicken Coop

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Thanks to the wonderful Hill and Walsh families for taking such great care of our school chickens the last few weekends. We hope you got lots of eggs and baked lots of delicious goodies with them, yum!

NEW! Fresh Free Range Eggs For Sale!

We are making a change to the way we sell our fresh eggs. From today, you can purchase our fresh free range eggs for only $5 for ½ dozen. They will be available to purchase in the Passive Play Area, before and after our school assembly every second Monday.

You can’t get this quality, freshness or extra, extra large eggs at the supermarket, that’s for sure!

Delicious lemons and limes from our fruit trees are also for sale, and we are selling our organic worm juice which is a wonderful fertiliser for your garden. It is collected fresh from our worm farms here at school! Buy a bottle for only $2 this week.

St John’s students love having the chickens at school. All the money we make is put back into buying food and other necessities for them.

Garden News-Meet Jan

We have some exciting news! We are very fortunate to have the help of a community member who has started helping us to rejuvenate our vegetable wicking beds. Jan is coming in once a week and she has already done a lot of work preparing the beds for planting by weeding, checking the soil pH levels, adding compost and planting a few seedlings and strawberry plants.

Students are able to help Jan with the veggie garden at lunchtimes on Thursday if they are interested.

Did you Know?…

Chickens clean themselves by preening- they gather oil, using their beak, from a tiny gland located near their tail and then peck at their feathers.

Thanks for your support,
