Learning and Teaching

Spotlight on Learning in Maths!

There is certainly lots of Maths learning happening at St John’s! As I walk around the school during Maths lessons, I hear students counting forwards, backwards and skip counting. I see teachers reviewing previous learning with their students through Daily Reviews with the use of whiteboards and other strategies. I see mental maths experiences and fluency practice of number facts. I see lots of hands-on learning opportunities and the use of concrete materials. It’s great to see students being engaged and active participants in their Maths learning.

Ordering fractions on a number line and Using grid references to locate landmarks and scales to work out distances.

Playing Battleships to apply new learning and practise using grid references.

Applying knowledge of perimeter to work on challenging open ended tasks.

At home, I encourage you all to continue learning conversations about Maths. Use the information in the level newsletters and home learning tasks to ask your children what they have been learning about in Maths. Happy learning!

We're writing a new chapter for Whitehorse Libraries - and want YOU to be part of the story!

Share your ideas to help us create library spaces for you and other young people across the community. Tell us how you use Whitehorse libraries, what matters most to you, and your ideas for the future.  If you don't currently use public libraries, please tell us how we can make them more inclusive.

Help shape the next generation of libraries – your voice counts!
