Week 4 - Sunday's Gospel - Luke 24:46-53

"He blessed them and withdrew from them and was carried up to Heaven"

After Jesus rose from the dead, He spent time with His friends, the disciples. He told them that everything that happened—His dying and coming back to life—was part of God’s big plan, just like the scriptures foretold. Jesus told them they had an important job: to go tell everyone that God forgives them and loves them. But they wouldn’t be alone—God would send them a special helper, the Holy Spirit. Then Jesus took them to a place called Bethany, blessed them and was lifted up into heaven! The disciples were amazed and full of joy. They went back to Jerusalem and spent time at the temple, thanking and praising God.

  • I wonder how the disciples felt when Jesus rose into the sky?
  • I wonder what it means to be a witness for Jesus?
  • I wonder what kind of help the Holy Spirit gives us?
  • I wonder how we can share God’s love like the disciples did?

Reconciliation Week- Aquinas College Long Walk

Visiting Aquinas College today was a great experience for our FIRE Carriers and Social Justice leaders as they joined several neighbouring Primary and Secondary schools to reflect during Reconciliation Week. Each year a guest speaker shares their story and connection to their ancestry reminding us that our work is not yet done. Jack Peris shared how his grandparents were taken away from their families at such a young age due to government policies.  We also listened to the Aquinas band singing a popular 80s song called 'Solid Rock' by Goanna which reminded us that we are all on Sacred Ground.
