Melbourne's Winter is a special time. While it is cold and changeable, we appreciate the activities that we can do and the cozy atmosphere it brings. This year during Winter at St John's, we are going to trial the students wearing slippers in the classroom. The students will have the option of leaving a pair of slippers at school in their bag locker to change into each day. We hope that this will add to the cosiness of the classroom while also maintaining cleaner carpets throughout the school.
Inform and Empower live streamed incursions are changing the way that our students learn about cyber safety and digital wellbeing. This Term our students have been learning about being safe online, screentime and looking after their own digital wellbeing using a variety of strategies. Please ask your child to share their new understandings with you and set some firm guidleines around screentime for your family.
You will be aware that our Rehearsal at the Round on 2 July, will require the students to be dropped off from 8.30am - 9.00am at The Round, unless we have been notified otherwise. Teachers will be there to greet their students. They will need their usual snacks and lunch. Students may be picked up between 2.30pm and 3.00pm from the Round. Any students still there by 3pm will walk back to school with the staff and may be picked up at 3.20pm as usual. Students will not be able to leave the Round unless they are picked up by an adult.
Please note that St John's School will have a scheduled power outage on 18 June. We will take this opportunity to have a great day of learning without technology and it will help us all to appreciate the gift of electricity. It could be a good day for some outdoor lessons too and back to basics with lots of writing and creating in books.
All students should now be wearing their winter uniform, which includes tunic or pants and a long sleeved polo. The skort is part of the summer uniform and should not be worn during the winter terms. Navy socks or navy tights may also be worn. I know that some boys prefer the shorts instead of winter pants which are also acceptable. Students should only be wearing coloured runners to school on their allocated sports day. We appreciate your support with this.
Celebrating Reconciliation Week at St John's Mitcham is an important time for us. Last week we commenced with a whole school Liturgy to commemorate Sorry Day and tomorrow we will conclude with our version of the Long Walk to commemorate Mabo Day.
Tomorrow, all students are asked to dress in yellow, red or black, or a combination of all three on Tuesday, 3 June.
Q: What do you call two banana peels on the floor?
A: A Pair of Slippers!
May you have a lovely week ahead, stay warm and please let me know if I can assist you or your family in any way.
