Lunchtime Activities at Miners Rest
Lunchtime Activities are led by our Student Leaders and supported by teaching staff each lunch break. The purpose of the activities is to provide children with opportunities to explore their interests, while developing positive social skills, make good decisions, build on existing or new relationships, play cooperatively and problem solve in a supportive environment, with the guidance of our staff and student leaders.
At the beginning of each term, students across the school are surveyed about what activities they would like to participate in at lunchtime, from here the activities are developed. Each term, the activities are reviewed and new activities are considered based on the feedback from students.
The lunchtime activities also support the development of our student leaders. Leaders are expected to develop activities for the children that are age appropriate and engaging. While facilitating the activities, leaders often need to adapt what they had planned, give clear instructions and provide support for students to participate. Each week, our leaders are learning new skills, building their confidence and growing personally, which has been wonderful to see.

Before and After School Reminders
We’d like to remind families that the school grounds at Miners Rest Primary School are supervised by staff from 8:45am to 3:35pm. Outside of these times, staff are not available to supervise students.
To help keep all children safe:
- Before school: Students must wait outside their classrooms until doors open at 8:45am. There is no teacher supervision before this time, and students should not be playing unless directly supervised by a parent or guardian.
- If a student arrives at school before supervision begins, the Principal or a nominated staff member will, as soon as practicable, follow up with the parent/carer to:• Advise them of the school’s supervision arrangements before school.• Request that alternate arrangements be made for future mornings.
- After school: Students are expected to head straight home unless they are waiting to be picked up. Those waiting will be supervised by staff on after-school duty.
- At 3:35pm, any students who have not been collected will be taken to the administration office.
- If a student is not collected before the end of the supervision period, the Principal or a nominated staff member will consider whether it is appropriate to:• Attempt to contact the parent/carer.• Attempt to contact the student’s emergency contacts.
Thank you for your continued support in ensuring a consistent and safe approach for all students. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
