From Campfires to Author Workshops!

Apologies for missing last week’s newsletter—I was lucky enough to be away on the amazing Grade 4 Camp at Wyuna! Always on the lookout for literacy moments, it was heartening to see so many students bringing books along to read during their downtime. It’s a beautiful thing to witness the joy of reading carried beyond the classroom, and I even picked up a book recommendation myself!

In other exciting news, ten students from Miners Rest Primary School have been selected to take part in the Ballarat Young Authors program, joining 80 students from across the region. Two weeks ago, we attended the official launch event, where students had the chance to hear from local author and illustrator Ben Saunders, who inspired many budding writers with his story and creative process.

In the coming weeks, our MRPS students will participate in an exclusive author workshop with award-winning author Andrea Rowe. They’ll also attend the first multi-school event at the Ballarat Library, where they’ll meet and learn from an exciting panel of authors including Anthony Kearle, Tamara Sheward, Garry Fay, and a returning Ben Saunders.

It’s an exciting time to be a young reader and writer at Miners Rest!
