Prep News

Dear Families,

It has been another exciting and engaging few weeks in Prep! We are so proud of how the students continue to grow in confidence and curiosity across all areas of their learning.

Literacy

This fortnight, we were thrilled to meet Kylie the Koala and Max the Fox, who have been inspiring our narrative writing sessions focused on kindness. The students have been developing their ideas around storytelling, including setting, characters, and plot.

We also dove into the delightful book The Leaf Thief, where we’ve been analysing the characters and the sequence of events. Through discussion and guided activities, students are building their comprehension and critical thinking skills.

Mathematics

Our budding mathematicians have been busy exploring patterns! We have been learning to identify the unit of repeat in a pattern and create our own using colours, shapes, actions and even drum sticks! This hands-on learning is helping students build a strong foundation in algebraic thinking in a fun and musical way.

Inquiry – Our Community

We’ve continued to investigate the people who help us in our community. A huge thank you to Sarah (Rupert’s mum) who came in this week to tell the students about her role in the community - a teacher! Sarah left her typewriter that she uses with her students in her clinic for our prep students to have a look at such a wonderful ancient artefact. Rupert was very helpful with everyone showing them how to press the letters.

Reminders

As we head into the cooler months and with illness going around, we kindly ask that if your child is feeling unwell, please allow them time to rest and recover at home. This helps reduce the spread of germs and ensures everyone can return to school healthy and ready to learn.

Assembly will be held this Friday from 3:00–3:30pm. Families are always welcome!

Show & Tell occurs every Friday before assembly. While this was outlined in our term newsletter, we have attached an additional copy of the Show & Tell schedule for your reference.

Prep A & B Show and Tell Roster Term 2

This term, students are invited to bring something special from home to share with the class. It might be a favourite toy, a photo, or something meaningful from an experience they'd like to talk about. Please note the date your child/ren have Show and Tell this term.

If your child chooses to bring a toy, we will talk to them about keeping it in their locker during class and break times for safekeeping.

Students will be encouraged to speak for around 2–3 minutes, and their classmates will have the opportunity to ask questions afterwards. This is a great way to build confidence and practise speaking and listening skills.
