Principal Message

Friday

From the Principal’s Desk

It has been another busy and exciting fortnight at Mitcham Primary School, filled with rich learning experiences and moments of celebration.

One of the highlights was the fabulous STEM incursion with Lego Master Ryan. Our students were absolutely captivated by the creative challenges and problem-solving tasks, and it was wonderful to see so much collaboration, innovation and enjoyment. This incursion strongly complements our STEM curriculum, which encourages students to apply scientific thinking, mathematical reasoning and design skills to real-world problems. Activities like this spark curiosity and help build the critical and creative thinking that is central to our STEM learning programs.

It’s also been lovely hearing stories from students about their adventures over the extra-long 4-day weekend. While students were enjoying a well-earned break, our staff spent Friday engaging in professional learning on Protective Intervention Training to support safe and inclusive learning environments, before turning their attention to the important work of report writing.

We are proud to share that Linkhon, one of our Grade 6 students, represented Mitcham PS at the Divisional Cross Country on Thursday and placed an amazing 16th - what a fantastic achievement!

Today, our Grade 5/6 students participated in Interschool Sport, competing in footy, soccer, netball, and lawn bowls. It was a great day of teamwork, and fun, and especially exciting to be able to watch the lawn bowls competition take place right here at Mitcham Primary School.

Today we also welcomed a very excited and enthusiastic group of preschoolers to our first MitchKids Playgroup for the year. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces as children explored the Maker Space, engaged in play, and began to familiarise themselves with the school environment. MitchKids Playgroup is a fabulous opportunity for young children to start feeling comfortable in a school setting, as well as to meet some of our friendly Prep teachers and get a sense of what it is like to be part of the Mitcham Primary School community. We are already looking forward to our next Mitchkids session on Friday 27th June.

We would like to say a very big THANK YOU to Kaleb and his family for kindly organising the very generous and appreciated donation of glue sticks for our classrooms. Thank you also to the team at Bostik!
