Year 5 Outdoor Education - Kunanyi/ Mt Wellington Bushwalk

Friday 8, 15 September

In the coming weeks Year 5 students will be going on an Outdoor Education bushwalk on Kunanyi/Mt Wellington. The focus for the day is building resilience, working together as a team, exploring the varied ecosystems and learning about the Aboriginal history of the location. The walk will start at Shoebridge Bend and finish at The Springs via Sawmill and Organ Pipes Track. This is approximately 4km with some steep ascending. There is also a 2km route for those who may find the 4km option too challenging. Students will also need to pack their day bag with a rain jacket, spare warm jacket/fleece, beanie, spare socks, plenty of food for lunch and snacks, a big drink bottle of water, and any personal medication. Year 2 Excursion to Mornington and South Hobart

Tuesday 19 September

On Tuesday 19 September Year 2 will be undertaking a Managing Waste Materials Excursion, visiting the Mornington Park Waste Transfer Station, the Cascade Gardens and the South Hobart Resource Work Cooperative. This is part of our inquiry into Sharing the Planet. The purpose of this visit is to familiarise the children with the various materials the resource centres recycle, the impact of our use of materials on the environment, and our responsibility when disposing of waste.

We will leave the school by bus at 9.00am and return to school at 1.45pm. As part of this experience, students may bring two dollars to spend at the South Hobart Tip Shop. The item/s that they buy with this money will be used in an up-cycling project back in the classroom. We are hoping that the students’ interest in refuse, reduce, reuse and recycle/up-cycle will be provoked. We would love families to be part of this experience; however, we are only permitted to take two additional adults for each class. If you are interested in joining us for the excursion, could you please email the classroom teacher.
