Grade 5/6

During Term 3, we studied the Novel ‘Wonder’ by R.J.Palacio. On completion of this book study, we watched the movie. It was interesting to compare the similarities and differences between the book and the movie.

This term, we are studying the novel ‘Boy Overboard’ by Morris Gleitzman. So far, we have been researching some background information about Afghanistan and its laws, Refugees and Manchester United which all feature in the book.

We have begun a Writing unit on Poetry this term and we will explore a variety of poetry styles.

In Numeracy, our focuses have been Patterns and Algebra, Shape, Location and Transformation as well as daily fluency tasks to strengthen automatic recall to solving problems related to the four operations. We have also been learning about the problem solving strategies we can use when presented with a problem. We have been working on presenting our maths notebooks in a neat manner, including a reflection about our learning to end the lesson.
