French Specialist Programs Pre-Orientation

On Thursday 7 September, we had the pleasure of welcoming our 2024 French Specialist Programs students! They participated in a range of classroom and outdoor activities during their morning at AHS. In the classroom, depending on the FSP program, students were able to get a taste for French Advanced, Maths, Humanities and Science. In Science, students learnt about lab safety rules and how to use a Bunsen burner safely. Congratulations to all who received their Bunsen burner licence on this occasion! They also started to become familiar with some of the lab equipment and used measuring cylinders to measure volumes accurately. French Partial Immersion students, helped by Monsieur Brochet, participated in a mini tournament of pétanque which was a first for most students!

We look forward to welcoming them all again in Term 4 during our next Transition event, and of course at the start of the 2024 school year!

Festival francophone de l’enfance

On Saturday 9 September, Auburn High School took part in the festival francophone de l’enfance, at Caulfield Junior College. The festival was a great occasion for French families to come and discover the various French education options available, from kindergarten to secondary schools. Thank you to our wonderful students, Keima, Anaëlle, Maxence, Mia and Joshua for representing Auburn High School so well and answering many questions from families.

What’s happening in our French classrooms?

Year 7 Language

Over the last two weeks, our Year 7 students presented their group play “Salut, mon ami!” in class, as part of their speaking assessment. Each student had a role to play and they rehearsed many times to be ready for their final performance! The presentations were very entertaining and many students displayed excellent pronunciation and fluency skills in French! Well done for your hard work!

Pivot class discussion

Student voice and agency is an important part of Auburn High School values. After completing the Pivot Survey earlier in Term 3, Year 7 French students and teachers decided to explore in more detail the results of the survey for their own French class. This discussion enabled teachers to continue to diversify their program and provide varied learning opportunities for all.

French Binational Program

In French Literature, as part of their unit of work on the Middle Age, le Moyen-Âge et le roman de chevalerie, 7FBN students concluded their learning by drawing a coat of arms from that era. The coat of arms had to follow specific rules from the Middle Age regarding shapes, colours and animal figures.
