Year 2/3

We hope this newsletter finds you well and that you're as excited as we are about the fantastic learning journey taking place in the Grade 2/3 classroom. We want to keep you updated on the engaging and enriching experiences your children are having. In this edition, we'll focus on our exploration of fractions in Mathematics and our creative journey through the world of poetry in English class.

Mathematics: Unveiling the Fascinating World of Fractions

In Mathematics, your children are diving into the intriguing world of fractions. They are learning about the concept of fractions, understanding how to represent them visually, and developing essential skills to work with fractions in various mathematical operations. Our goal is to make learning about fractions fun, engaging, and applicable to real-life situations.

We encourage you to support your children's understanding of fractions at home. You can do this through simple activities like dividing a pizza into equal slices, or sharing snacks in a fair manner. These practical experiences can reinforce what they learn in class and demonstrate the real-world significance of fractions.

Stage 2 Content: Fractions and Decimals

MA2-7NA: Represents, models, and compares commonly used fractions and decimals.

MA2-8NA: Performs calculations with fractions and decimals.

English: Nurturing Creative Minds Through Poetry

In our English class, we're immersing your children in the world of poetry. Poetry is a fantastic way for students to explore language, rhythm, and self-expression. They are discovering the beauty and power of words as they read, analyze, and create their own poems. We have already explored the structure of poems as well as poetic devices like Rhythm, Rhyme and Alliteration.

We'd love for you to encourage your children's love for poetry by reading and discussing poems together at home. You can even try writing poems as a family activity. This can be a wonderful bonding experience and an opportunity for your children to showcase their creativity.

Stage 2 Content: Responding to Literature

EN2-7B: Recognizes and discusses how different types of texts vary in use of language and organization.

EN2-2A: Responds to and composes a range of texts that express viewpoints of the world similar to and different from their own.

We value your involvement in your child's education, and we look forward to opportunities for you to engage with our classroom activities and the school community.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss your child's progress further, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We are always here to support you.
