Level 5 & 6 Wonga Weekly

Week 2, Term 4

🌿 READING AND VIEWING

During Reading, students will analyse the features of short stories and how an author makes a story relatable for their audience. They will discuss how they feel about different stories and make judgements about how the characters faced dilemmas, based on their own experiences.

🪴What you can do at home:

We encourage your child to read independently as often as possible. Discuss with your child different stories they have read and take note of how the characters have dealt with the problems that arise in these stories.

🌿 WRITING

Students will continue to take inspiration from short story authors to create their own engaging narrative. They will be focusing on making problems characters face in the story, relatable to their intended audience.

🪴What you can do at home:

Discuss common school yard problems that can be fictionalised and turned into a humorous story.

🌿 SPELLING AND GRAMMAR

This week our spelling focus is prefixes. Students will identify the correct use of specific prefixes and understand their base meanings and origins.

🌿 CBL

🌱 Our Big Idea for Term Four is 'Discovery'.

🪴Our Essential Question is:

🌏 In what ways can digital technologies improve our lives?

🪴Our Guiding Questions are:

🌏 How have the discoveries of digital technologies changed the world?

🌏 How do the positive impacts of digital technologies compared with the negative impacts?

🌱 This week, students will continue to investigate their wonderings about digital technology. They will also be completing the first mini challenge of creating a self portrait using coding.
