Level 1 & 2 Wonga Weekly

Week 2, Term 4

Reading

Stories help us share history and the past. We are looking at the importance of storytelling to share experiences from the past. This week we will be looking at First Nations dreaming stories, the message these stories are telling and how these stories are passed down through the generations.

Students will also be revising the important skill of retelling.

What you can do at home:

Ask your child to retell the story they have just read to you or one that you have just read to them - ask them to name the main characters, the setting and sequence the story from beginning, through the middle, to the end.

Spelling

We will be looking at the suffixes - er, est (comparatives and superlatives) and the rules surrounding the application of these suffixes.

We will also be revising simple sentences and working hard at the editing of our writing using our COPS (Capitals, Order and Organisation, Punctuation, Super Spelling) method.

What you can do at home:

Discuss the language used for comparatives and superlatives eg small, smaller, smallest, big, bigger and biggest and look at the spelling patterns when you add the suffix.

Maths

We will continue to work on understanding, making and recording fractions, as well as learning about the following areas in Measurement and Geometry;

Time, Length, Mass, Volume, Capacity and Area.

What you can do at home:

Notice fractions of a shape and a collection. Also, if you do any cooking with your child/ren, look at the amounts of liquids and solids, talk about the time the process will take etc.

CBL

We will be looking at story telling as a means of passing on information about events from the past.
