Sock it to the Can

A hearty thank you to our whole College community for your generous support of our Vinnies Winter Appeal for 2023. We donated 931 items to Vinnies Kyabram this year. Our donations filled a trailer and a vehicle!

Our recipients of the hot chip lunch will be our Year 12 cohort (25 students) who donated a whopping 168 items! That more than six items per person.

They were closely followed by Ms Grant's 3/4 TA who donated 83 items and Miss Mawley's Year 10 TA who donated 73 items.

Thank you everyone once again and thank you to Wayne Mulchay and John Lilford of Kyabram Vinnies who were present for our most recent whole College Assembly to receive our donations.

Congratulations to writers Lily and Isabella

During Term 3, the St Augustine’s 2023 Writing Competition was in full swing. The theme, Ignite your Inner Flame, called on our students in Years 7 to 12 to write about issues that spoke to them and ignited a desire for change.

We had two winning entries:

  • Women Empowerment by Lily M in Year 10, and
  • Self Discovery and Determination by Isabella S in Year 9.

Lily wrote an informative piece about women's empowerment, detailing the oppression women overcome on a daily basis and how they hold the key to a better future. Here is a snippet of Lily’s winning entry.

“The motive of women's empowerment is to help them stand equally with men. It's a foundational step to ensure the growth of a family and country. The world would definitely witness gender equality and help women from every stratum of society stand on their own and control their own lives as per their own wishes.”

Isabella took a creative approach to her issue, writing a story about Cyrus, a student at the magical academy who struggles to harness his true abilities. With a friends help, Cyrus can find the strength within. Below is a snippet of Isabella’s winning entry.

“Night had fallen over the Academy, and out of the darkness, a cloaked figure walked through the gates and out the front of the Academy, making their way to the forest that looms over the tall figure. Golden eyes peer through the darkness leaving a lustre glow to map out a path ahead, climbing over rocks and undergrowth until stumbling over a moss-covered rock and falling down a canyon towards the darkness. It enveloped the cloaked figure within seconds as the world around them seemed to slow down for a brief moment before the golden eyes of the figure slowly closed. As they fell deeper towards the bottom of the canyon, the soft glow of their eyes slowly disappeared as they succumbed to the darkness around them.”

The girls created some incredible pieces of work and received a Booktopia voucher for their efforts.

We look forward to seeing what unique pieces of writing come from our next St Augustine’s writing competition.

Thank You - Father's Day Stall

A very big thank you to Jenny McMeeken and Alicia Collins for organising the wonderful variety of gifts the students were able to purchase for their beaut blokes at this year's Father's Day Stall.  Thanks also to our volunteers who helped on the day of the stall.

We hope all the special people in our student's lives had a wonderful day.

Arts and Design Technology Showcase

As we wrap up Term 3 and look forward to Term 4, students and staff from the Arts and Design Technology Learning Area have been busy preparing for our annual Art and Technology Showcase event to be held in Week 5 of Term 4.

The event will be open to the public on Thursday  2nd November from 6.00-8.00pm and will be held in the Brigidine Centre.

This exhibition will, again, showcase student’s work, from Foundation to Year 12, and will include pieces that have been designed, manufactured and created in Visual Arts, Visual Communication Design, Media, Technology Wood and Metal, Food Technology and Performing Arts.

This year, our Art and Design Technology showcase will be opened by local artist, ‘Tank’ from Tank Art’s. Tank has an eclectic brand of public sculpture - such as the brightly painted fibreglass cows, quirky murals and large-scale metal sculptures which can be seen scattered around many of the shops, parks, riverside and public spaces of the Greater Shepparton area.

We look forward to welcoming Tank to our College and hearing more about his career and art work when he joins us on Thursday evening.

So, how do I enter the 2023 Art and Technology Showcase?

There are two ways to enter your work in the Showcase.

1. Your teacher will select work created in class.

2. You can enter work completed outside of the classroom, in one, or more, of the following categories:

  • Collaborative entry (get a group of friends together and create something spectacular)
  • Individual creations of any media (paper, mixed media, wood, glass, metal, photography, Lego etc.)

Entries must be in to your teacher by Friday 27th October.

We look forward to seeing your wonderful creations!
