Cultural celebrations
We have been busy these last few weeks learning and writing about different cultural celebrations.
Some of us celebrated Diwali. We did some amazing activities with Kaajal in the library, there was so much colour! Did you know Diwali is the festival of light over darkness?
Roughly a billion people celebrate Diwali all over the world. It is the celebration of good triumphing over evil. People exchange gifts and sweets, enjoy delicious feasts, watch firework displays and wear new clothes. It’s a time to clean and decorate your home, too.
Another celebration we learnt about is Halloween. Lots of us went 'trick or treating' around our neighbourhood and came home with baskets full of treats and lollies. We leant new things about Halloween too. Did you know that the first ever jack'o lanterns were made out of turnips! Halloween used to be called 'All Hallows Eve'. To get rid of spirits, people would walk around with torches to scare them off! Black cats were originally believed to protect witches powers. Halloween traditions started over 2000 years ago!
Fete, Fete, Fete
We have been so excited this week getting ready for the fete. We have been baking, making and creating for our bake sale. There were so many delicious treats to buy. Thank-you very much to all of the families who donated food to make our stall amazing. We hope you all had a fabulous night celebrating our school community.
