From Jonny, Prep teacher
At the Melbourne Zoo
Prep had their first excursion and it was truly an adventure!
We caught the bus to Melbourne Zoo and the children were very responsible when crossing the roads and waiting patiently in the sun! By the time we reached the zoo, it was already a scorcher, so we made sure to drink plenty of water and made sure to stay SunSmart with our hats and lots of sunscreen.
Each class took a different route around the zoo, and we all tried our best to use our observation skills to spot the animals and examine their behaviour, just like Jane Goodall and David Attenborough. We saw lions and tigers (but sadly no bears) as well as elephants playing in the water, red pandas climbing in the trees and hundreds of butterflies. We even saw Bin Chickens all over the place, although that was only interesting for Mr Jonny.
By the end of the trip, it was 34°C and we were definitely ready to return to school. Once we got back to class, we watched a short virtual tour of the zoo and discussed everything that we had seen (and anything we had missed). We wrote a recount describing our excursion later in the week, and we were really impressed by how much the children could remember!
