Year 6 Leadership Day

By Angelique Shmerling

We hosted the final Leadership Day at GWPS yesterday, and what a fabulous way to complete a rigorous leadership program this year.

Dr Gihan joined presented 'Do Happy', sharing the importance of health and happiness for leaders before they can flourish at supporting and leading others. Students and teachers were particularly amused by his 'Carlton Dance'.  Then, learners were inspired by our very own Miss Dell 'Aquila, who shared her journey of resilience.

We shared the progress of our charity project (Food for Friends and Salvation Army Christmas Appeal) and were able to gather ideas from other schools.

The leaders also had the opportunity to begin thinking ahead to next year; brainstorming what they think would  be important to include in a 2025 Leadership Program.

A HUGE thank you to everyone involved in making our day a success- Mr Lou and the Year 6 team for your planning and flexibility with the classroom switches, Ms Cecconello and the OSHC for your generosity and flexibility, enabling us to use your spaces, Ms Dell'Aquila for taking time out of your class to plan and present a fabulous presentation, Mr Catalano for introducing our day with the engaging 'attributes of a leader' presentation, Mr Lewis for organising the OSHC space this morning, and the entire principal team for helping us find multiple spaces to host our day.

What the learners had to say...

Diyoni: Being a leader may look easy, but it's not really that easy.

Ali: I loved building connections with people from other schools.

Hansiga: Our school has been inspired with new ideas for our food drive by the other schools.
