This term, 4F students have been enthusiastic explorers of science and design through our Inquiry unit, "How should physical sciences inform safe and sustainable design practices?". By investigating contact and non-contact forces, students learned how these forces impact the way things move and work, applying this knowledge to solve real-world challenges.
The Billy Cart Incursion was a highlight of our term and an incredible opportunity to put our learning into action. Working in small teams, we used teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving to transform our ideas into working billy cart models.
Testing our designs was so much fun! Sliding our carts down ramps, we observed how friction and gravity affected their performance. We reflected on what worked, what didn’t, and how we could improve. Seeing how our understanding of science directly connected to what we built and tested was a powerful and rewarding experience.
The day ended with thrilling races on pre-built Billy Carts and Ezy-Rollers around the Supreme Track. This hands-on activity not only gave us a chance to explore the forces of push, pull, and motion in action but also brought plenty of excitement and joy.
This experience was a fantastic way to connect what we’ve learned in the classroom to real-life applications. It inspired us to experiment, reflect, and refine our ideas while building our teamwork skills and love for learning.
