The Season of Advent

As we near the festive season, we also enter into the season of Advent. A time of preparation for the birth of Jesus Christ.  Each week of Advent emphasizes themes such as hope, peace, joy, and love, helping us prepare our hearts and minds for the celebration of Christmas. The word Advent comes from the Latin word adventus, meaning “coming” or “arrival.”

Advent is a season observed in most Christian denominations as a time of waiting and preparation for both the celebration of Jesus' birth at Christmas and the return of Christ at the Second Coming. Priests will wear purple vestments during this time, and it is traditional to have an Advent wreath as well.

Our school community will be preparing for Christmas through a number of Advent Liturgies that will be conducted in the school hall.

We would love to see parents, family members and friends at these celebrations. Here are the dates and times:

  • Friday 6th Dec 2:30pm
  • Friday 13th Dec 9:05am
  • Tuesday 17th Dec 9:05am

Christmas Hampers

A letter was shared with families regarding the creation of Christmas Hampers. St Therese's has always been a community built on care and generosity for others. Christmas time is no different for this wonderful school. If possible, families are invited to donate non-perishable food items as well as gifts for children and adults that are unwrapped, to be placed in each class basket hamper. Some baskets are already filling up! You can also drop them off at the office where there are baskets under the Christmas Tree in the foyer.

All proceeds will go to the St Vincent de Paul Society to assist those families in need, making their Christmas a brighter one. As the St Vinnies motto goes: 'A hand up, not a hand out'. This initiative is being led by our Mini Vinnies Leadership Team.

Thanking you in advance for your generosity and consideration.

God bless and stay courageous.
