What is happening around the school

Foundation

Foundation finally got to see our favourite people LIVE! No it wasn't our teachers... It was Pevan and Sarah! We got to sing along to all of our favourites and eat hot chippies. To quote our preppies "best day EVER"

In Foundation we have been learning to count objects in different ways.

Look how we can solve a Maths problem!

Grades 1 and 2

What an enjoyable day the Grade 1 students had at Scienceworks! We explored and had fun having a go at lots of different activities. At the ‘Toys and Forces’ show we learnt about push, pull and gravity, and how different toys work. We are so proud of the way all the students displayed the Kalinda values!

Grades 5 & 6

This week our 5/6s composed their own songs on the keyboard and chose how to write down their music using a variety of traditional and non-traditional notation.

You can see the amazing concentration on their faces as they compose these beautiful and unique pieces of music.

Such determination and talent are shown across the whole level!

Well done grade 5/6s!

Grade 5 & 6 - Maths Olympiad

Throughout 2024, a selected group of year 5 & 6 students has been taking part in the APSMO Maths Olympiad. This is a maths extension program and competition run throughout Australia and New Zealand. Students work hard on developing their problem-solving skills, their logic, and their knowledge and understanding of mathematical concepts and reasoning. Four contests take place throughout the year, in which students complete complex maths questions and aim to do their personal best each time.

All students who participate receive a certificate, but those whose overall results land in the top 25% of competing students in Australia & NZ receive a special prize.

This year, Kalinda had 8 students in the top 25%, including 3 who made it to the top 10% across Australia and New Zealand. Congratulations to the following students:

Top 25%

Yumiao F

Liam S

Ryan P

Jennifer F

Jack K

Top 10%

Andy X

Gavin M

Finn M (our top scoring student!)

Well done to all participants on a wonderful year of maths!
