Year 8 Volleyball

Year 7 Futsal

Congratulations to our Year 7 Futsal teams who recently competed in the Divisional Competition at Narrandjeri Stadium. Play during the day was fast and furious with our teams putting up some great performances.

The boys teams fought hard and showed some great skills but were unable to make it through to the final. Our girls A team had a fantastic win overall coming down to a Penalty shoot out in the final against Thornbury.

A big thank you to our student coaches  Riley Briggs, Jett Lyons, Asher Oakley, Vicky Kastoras, and Venessa Tabaskis.

Year 8 Girls Regional Volleyball

On Tuesday 29 October, the Year 8 Girls Volleyball Team attended the Regionals Volleyball Tournament. The players won all of their pool games and faced Eltham High in the Grand Final. The Year 8s started the match well by performing powerful serves, applying great defensive pressure, and setting each other up for strong hits. It was great to see how much the students have improved since the start of the year.

NHS were competitive but unfortunately lost the first set 16-20. After only winning the set by four points, Eltham High came out strong in the second set, serving to the corner of the court and performing various plays to shake the NHS defence. Unfortunately, Eltham High won the second set, taking home the overall win of the Regional Tournament. They were fantastic opponents, and the NHS players learnt some great lessons from versing an experienced side in a regional grand final.

Well done to Luci Silva, Charlotte Dickason, Heidi Burgess, Maria Parisis, Bernice Yeung, Heidi Stapleton, Elida Rouqueirol, Ella Stanyon, Astrid Dekker, and Imogen Fuaux. Thank you to Alicia Chant for coaching the Year 8 Girls!

Year 7 Girls Regional Basketball

On Thursday the year 7 girls basketball team went to Coburg Basketball Stadium and competed in the regional interschool sports tournament. They won 2 out of their 3 games, unfortunately not qualifying to the grand final. However, they showed excellent teamwork and persistence throughout. Iliana Dimovski was a standout player and contributed significantly to the team’s success, as well as Adele Lenne putting absolutely everything into each game. Anika Krishnapillai and I were proud to coach the girls and noted their great sportsmanship and cooperation.

Year 7 Regional Table Tennis

The boys were the underdogs going into their first regional match against Aust Int. Academy, who had a strong lineup that included the outstanding #1 and #2 players. However, Northcote stepped up to the plate, winning a hard-fought victory with a strong double’s performance and an incredible singles match from Oscar Gaymer. Northcote, who needed to win the following two games to go to the final, came through with excellent technique and teamwork. They put up a strong fight against St. Helena in the final, but they lost all of their games. They celebrated their runners-up banner with pride and happiness despite the defeat.

Thomas Bakos

Well done to our girls team who had some tough matches against Greensborough, Mt Ridley and Whittlesea.  Our girls won games throughout the day but not enough to make the finals.  The girls had lots of fun and felt pleased that they made it to this level.

A big thank you to our student coaches Asher Bartley and Thomas Bakos.  Asher and Thomas have helped out not only with coaching, but also with team selection over several year levels.

Year 7 Regional Hockey

On 31 October we took 2 year 7 teams to the Regional Competition and Greensborough Hockey Club. Both teams played combined really well with standout players Darani Seng, Oliver Semmens and Max Matijas. The boys had some hard matches but unfortunately couldn’t score when needed. The defensive end was phenomenal.

The girls team drew in 2 of their matches and won 2.  Unfortunately, it came down to points which resulted in them coming runners up.  The girls have since been invited to play in the State Finals due to another Region withdrawing their team.  They are looking forward to matching up against Princess Hill again and hoping to this time taking the win. Good Luck at State on Monday.

Sports Breakfast

On November 8, our school hosted our annual Sports Award Breakfast to honor the exceptional athletes of the year. The event was a wonderful gathering of students, parents, staff, and special guests, as we came together to celebrate the hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship displayed by our students throughout the year.

The morning kicked off with our Sports Captains, who led the proceedings with energy and enthusiasm. Their leadership ensured the event flowed smoothly, from introducing award categories to keeping the mood lively and engaging.

We were thrilled to welcome our Guest Speaker, Paris Olympic Swimmer, Will Petric, who shared an inspiring address about his journey in swimming and the importance of perseverance and resilience. His words resonated deeply with students, reminding them of the value of not just winning, but giving their best effort and growing through challenges.

A highlight of the morning was the recognition of our outstanding athletes, who were awarded for their dedication and achievements in a variety of sports. These students were selected for their commitment, leadership, and contributions to our sports community.
