From the Principal

The last fortnight has flown by, especially with the Melbourne Cup Public Holiday last week. I hope students used this time both to catch up on any required work and to enjoy the warmer weather.

Our Year 12 students have now completed most of their exams offsite at Melbourne Polytechnic and the ones remaining will now be held on our school site, so we appreciate our younger students moving quietly around the Performing Arts Building where these exams are held. We look forward to celebrating our Year 12s’ achievements in mid-December.

Our Year 11 students, have been preparing for their exams, which commenced this week. These exams are a great way to practice formal assessments in anticipation of Year 12 and future examinations as well as consolidate what they have learnt this year.

Year 9 students in the Duke of Edinburgh program have been preparing this year to undertake a camp and are heading off to Anglesea this week in two groups. We wish them all the best in their outdoor activities and camping experience.

Last Thursday was the official opening of our new building; The HUB. It was great to welcome Kat Theophanous to officiate and to our guests that attended. Many of our Captains were able to attend and assist with the tour and formalities, a big thanks to Azura and Elias for cutting the ribbon and leading the tour. We look forward to sharing the spaces with our community shortly.

We are delighted to confirm this year’s Alumni event, scheduled for November 28 at 10:30 am. Our "Back to NHS" gathering will be a warm welcome to our alumni, and an opportunity to share with them the new HUB. Alumni members are invited to join us for morning tea in the HUB, and our students will be leading tours to showcase the new learning spaces. If you or someone you know is an NHS alum, we would love to see you there!

In this issue, you’ll find information about our End of Year Music Concert on November 19 and the Art Show on November 27. I hope to see you at one or both of these wonderful celebrations.
