Grade 1/2 News

Here’s a recap of the exciting learning experiences we have been engaging with over the past two weeks.

The students have continued to hone their narrative writing skills, focusing on using WOW words to make their stories vivid and engaging.

They’ve also been focusing on improving the structure of a story, particularly how to create rising action and suspense to really capture the reader’s attention.

Last week we begun persuasive writing.

Students explored how to build strong arguments by taking a stance, either for or against, on the topic "Fish make the best pets."

They practiced using facts and opinions to convincingly support their viewpoints.

Our focus in Maths has been on two topics:

· Chance and Probability: Students explored events that are impossible, unlikely, likely, and certain, helping them understand everyday situations through the lens of probability.

· Fractions: We’ve introduced halves and quarters, working with different experiences to strengthen their grasp of fractions as parts of a whole and a collection.

In Religion, we’ve started a new unit called The First Christmas, where students are learning about the birth of Jesus.

This unit gives them insights into the story of Christmas and its significance, enhancing both their understanding and appreciation of this tradition.

The excursion to Beechworth was a highlight!

Students tried their luck at gold panning, much like the miners of the past—some struck “gold,” while others gained experience in perseverance!

They also visited the Beechworth Museum, exploring fascinating artifacts like an old butter maker, hair crimper, and vintage cameras, providing a window into life during the Gold Rush era.

For the past 2 weeks, 1/2 Dellicastelli had the privilege of welcoming Mr White for work experience.

Mr White quickly built fantastic connections with the students and provided valuable support during learning time.

We wish him all the best in his future endeavors and hope to see him thrive in his potential career in education.
