Foundation News
Hi again from the Foundation team.
Hopefully your child has come home excited for Grade 1 next year after our 2nd transition morning.
We still have two more sessions to go which will provide enough time for the students to feel confident and ready to go into the Grade 1 space next year.
These transitions are to familiarise students with the area and are not indicative of next year's classes.
In Literacy, we continue to build on our students' reading and writing skills in whole class and small group activities.
It’s great to see some students experimenting with expression when reading and using punctuation when writing.
It has only been less than a year and the Foundation students are reading and responding to short texts and putting together sentences in their writing!
We have been looking at ‘sharing’ in Numeracy over the last week and a half – reading stories about dividing cookies and playing games and activities trying to share items equally into different number of groups.
The students have really enjoyed relating this back to real life stories involving lollies and brothers and sisters or friends.
We have begun our last Religion unit; ‘We Celebrate Christmas’ and have been talking about waiting. This leads to learning about Advent and how it is a time of waiting and preparing ourselves for Christmas.
If your child still has library books at home can they please return them in preparation for the end of the year.
Our last two weeks Bernie trophy winners were Foundation Everitt and Foundation Turner – well done!
These were our award winners also for the last two weeks. Thanks for the continued home support with reading – keep it up guys!
