Grade 5 - 6

Celebrating End-of-Year Assessments!

Our Grade 5/6 students have reached an exciting milestone as they wrap up their end-of-year assessments! We couldn’t be prouder of their hard work and resilience during this time. It’s been fantastic to see students show a wonderful attitude towards their learning and growth. These assessments are a great way for students to show off the knowledge they’ve built up throughout the year, and we’ve been impressed with the care and attention they’ve given. Parents, thank you for supporting them through this process – it's a team effort, and we appreciate you cheering them on from the sidelines!

Reading: A Journey with The Lorax

In Reading, we’ve been delving into the world of The Lorax by Dr. Seuss, exploring its powerful message about the environment and responsibility. Students have been captivated by the story's lively characters and vivid descriptions, and we've taken things a step further by comparing the book to its animated movie adaptation. We’ve had some fantastic discussions about the similarities and differences between the two versions, which has sparked thoughtful ideas about storytelling, adaptation and how messages can shift between formats. It’s been a creative and engaging way to connect reading with environmental themes!

Writing: Figurative Language and Fun with Odes and Limericks

This term in Writing, our class has been honing their skills in figurative language. We’ve been learning to bring out creativity using similes, metaphors, alliteration and more. To put this knowledge into practice, students have been crafting their own odes and limericks, resulting in some humorous and heartfelt pieces. From odes to pets and favorite foods to limericks about funny characters, their writing has been full of imagination and expression. It’s a joy to see the growth in each student’s writing voice as they learn to add flavor and flair to their words.

Maths: Mastering the Order of Operations

In Maths, we’ve been taking on the order of operations, ensuring students feel confident with this foundational skill as they prepare for new challenges in the future. We’ve also been brushing up on multiplication and division facts, keeping those quick-recall skills sharp! Through engaging activities, games, and practice, students have strengthened their ability to approach complex problems with clarity.
