Grade 4

Reading

Last week in Reading, we explored the concept of themes in stories by watching the short film Joy and Heron, where we identified the theme of friendship and resilience. We also reflected on our recent mentor text Fox by Margaret Wild, and discussed its theme of loss and the bond between characters. By analysing both, we deepened our understanding of how themes shape the messages in stories.

This week, students began to look at symbols and what they are. This led into our new mentor text, The Feather by Margaret Wild. The students were excited to begin a new mentor text and look forward to identifying the symbol and what it could represent in the story.

Writing

The students have continued working on their narrative writing, focusing on developing strong characters and engaging plots. They’ve been practising using descriptive language and dialogue to bring their stories to life, while also learning how to structure their narratives with clear beginnings, middles, and endings. It’s been exciting to see their creativity and storytelling skills grow!

Maths

Maths this week has seen our students learning all about the Australian coins and notes. They have been looking at the designs, colours, people represented, and the value. They have been looking at how we add and subtract our money which is a useful skill to have. They have been learning all there is to know about how we use money and the importance of money.

Incursion: Simply Your Best - Inspire Program

Our students recently took part in an exciting incursion hosted by the NRL Participation & Community team. They participated in an interactive session focused on the powerful message, “Simply Your Best.” Using Rugby League as a platform, students were inspired to do their best in all areas of life, from their classroom to their family, sports teams, and beyond. It was a fantastic opportunity to engage with valuable life lessons and learn how positive effort can impact their personal growth and the communities they are part of.
