Grade 2

Term 4 continues to be going full steam ahead as we work hard to wind up all the learning for the year. We can’t believe this term is already halfway through! Here is a little snapshot of what we have been learning at school the last few weeks. 

Storybook - Georges Marvellous Medicine 

With our Spelling and Reading Programs down to the final few tests, we have ramped up on our Story Book Lessons, and have started reading George’s Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl. We read our story together as a class 4 times a week and the students complete fun activities afterwards to check for understanding of what we have read and discussed together. 

Mathematics – Time and Calendars

In Maths, our current focus is Clocks and learning how to read and use Calendars. 

TIME: Students are great at reading time on the hour, and continue to develop their understanding of ‘Quarter Part’ and ‘Quarter To’ time. We have been using interactive clocks like this one here to practise making and reading times. You can open this clock here if you would like to practise with your kids at home. 

CALENDARS: We are also learning to list the months of the year in order, and be able to read and add dates to calendars we make in class. 

Narrative Writing Practice

Over the last few weeks we have also been looking at Narratives and the elements of a story including the characters, setting, problems, solutions. We are slowly building a character we can use in our stories and working on making strong starts to our stories with onomatopoeia words like “BANG!” OR “CRASH!” to add some action to our stories.   

Christmas Concert Practice 

Each week we are adding to our Christmas Concert Dances and getting ready for our whole school concert! Students are really getting into it and having so much fun practising. We hope all the parents can come and see how hard students are working on their dances on December 12th! 

Winding Up

It is quite bittersweet that our year is coming to a close already. We have had so much fun in Grade 2 this year and are so proud of all the hard work the students have done this year. We look forward to ending the year with class christmas parties, christmas arts and crafts and our whole school excursion to Gravity Zone! 

Payment for Gravity Zone is due now, so please jump on the compass and pay if you haven't yet so your child can join us for a great day of fun and laughter to celebrate our amazing Grade 2 years!
