A Whirlwind of Activity

As the end of Term Four approaches, it’s the perfect moment to reflect on the vibrant and eventful year we’ve had at Breaksea.

The Year Elevens had an exceptionally busy year. Their Mocktail Party was a highlight, where Rif and Emmeline wowed everyone with their creative concoctions. The event featured fabulous dress-ups and a lively atmosphere, which balanced perfectly with their dedication to studies and exams.

This cohort exemplified perseverance and positivity, navigating the challenges of Year Eleven with grace. To those who achieved their academic goals—congratulations! And for those who didn’t quite hit the mark, take heart; your hard work has built a solid foundation for next year. I’m incredibly proud of your conduct and know that the younger students look up to you immensely.

This term has seen some outstanding achievements:

Chloe Climie excelled in the Australian Geography Competition and also represented the school on Remembrance Day.

Amy Medway earned a coveted spot at the National Mathematics Summer School at the Australian National University, an honour reserved for Australia’s brightest young mathematicians—well done, Amy!

Isabella Sprigg showcased her exceptional riding skills, participating in the Pony Club WA State Eventing Championships over the weekend and performed outstandingly. She also took home first place at the Kulin Bush Races. We’re so proud of Issy’s accomplishments!

The Years Eight and Nine sleepover brought a joyful buzz back to the house. The girls bonded while honing their communication and accountability skills, with guidance from our boarding leaders and staff. The pizza-making on the first night was a hit, and the fish and chips on the second night were equally delightful. It was heartwarming to see the current boarders warmly welcoming their new buddies and answering their questions with enthusiasm.

After such a whirlwind of activity, the Boarders’ Closed Weekend was a well-deserved break. But even then, our Year Tens didn’t rest. They played a vital role during the Years Seven and Eight Orientation, leading games and guiding the newcomers through their first taste of life at GSG. Their leadership and warmth were invaluable and a testament to their growth.

Since the Year Elevens finished on 18 November, the house has been quieter, but the Year Tens have kept up the momentum. Katelin Woithe, Isabella Sprigg, and Esther Barrett-Lennard have taken full advantage of Academic Assistance sessions, seeking extra help from boarding tutors and inspiring others with their initiative and drive.

Heartfelt Farewells

The end of the year always brings bittersweet goodbyes. At our festive Christmas Dinner, we celebrated the contributions of Ms Carter Wight, whose hard work, professionalism, and trustworthiness have left a lasting legacy. We also thanked Mr Taylor Colton, whose calming presence has been a source of comfort for many.

Our amazing Gappies, Mia Wienand and Paige Boyley are leaving us too. Mia’s patience during prep sessions and Paige’s enthusiasm have been unforgettable. Lastly, Serch embarks on her dream of travelling the world. Her chilled and positive energy will be sorely missed, but we wish her all the best on her adventures. To all those leaving, know that you’ll always have a home here.

We also bid farewell to Katelin Woithe, who is transitioning from boarding to becoming a day student next year. We are sad to see Katelin leave Breaksea but wish her every success in this new chapter.

Festive Fun

We wrapped up the term with some festive cheer. Katelin and Paul’s birthdays were celebrated with cake, and our Christmas Dinner, though held in November, was a feast of festive joy. The chefs outdid themselves, leaving us all with full hearts and stomachs.

Looking Ahead

A key focus at Breaksea is encouraging students to express their feelings and articulate their needs directly to staff. This vital life skill builds confidence, fosters independence, and ensures concerns are addressed effectively. While parents remain an important part of the process, empowering students to advocate for themselves helps them develop resilience and self-reliance.

Birthdays

Our final birthdays of the year were all celebrated by Year Twelve boarders who have either turned 18 or will turn 18 before the year finishes.  Happy birthday to Olivia Williss, Georgia Williams, Annabelle Lydeamore and Charlie Ritchie.

What a term and what a year it’s been! Thank you all for your support as I’ve found my feet in this role. It’s been a wonderful adventure, and I look forward to welcoming our new Breaksea girls and guiding our current boarders through another pivotal year in their schooling journey.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday season. Together, we’ve truly earned it!
