This week in Mathematics, the Grade 2s are describing how to move through mazes with directional language.


VOCABULARY

Direction: The way in which someone or something moves, including up, down, left, right, forward, and backward.

 

Navigate: To find a way through a maze or other difficult situation.

 

Path: The route taken to get from one place to another.

 

Turn: To change direction (e.g., turn left, turn right).

 

Forward: Moving ahead in the direction you are facing.

 

Backward: Moving in the opposite direction to which you are facing.


ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Homemade Mazes: 

Create a simple maze using household items (like books, boxes, or chairs) and have your child describe how to navigate through it using directional language. Encourage them to use terms like “turn left” or “go forward.”
