Principal's Update

Principal: Milan Matejin

Welcoming Back Students and Parents

I would like to again welcome everyone back to Bayside P-12 College for another school year. Our staff have spent two days in workshops and professional development training preparing themselves for the year ahead.

The first two weeks of the school calendar have started smoothly. Staff are once again committed to ensuring an excellent learning experience for all our students, and work has begun from the first week. We are dedicated to the success of each child and providing them with strong wellbeing supports to help achieve that success. As part of our induction into Year 7, all students went to Hanging Rock and had a thoroughly enjoyable day getting to know their peers and their teachers.

As we progress through the year, the expectations on students to develop and meet the academic rigour of the respective subjects and year levels will become obvious. At the same time, we will be developing the key skills and competencies to support their growth. It is important that all students step into this space and work to be the best that they can. Our college expectations are built on the three core values of being a learner, being respectful and being responsible.

As learners, our students are encouraged to be innovative and creative, be critical thinkers, and apply knowledge and skills to real-world settings. It is important that they work collaboratively with others to be connected with the school and all the opportunities that our great school offers.

As parents, your support and cooperation will support the school and your child/children through this journey.

For our new families, please read through our New Families Handbook and Prep Parent Handbook from our website.

School Attendance

We began the year with a noticeable number of students absent. This is a reminder that schooling is compulsory for children and young people up to the age of 17. I understand that families might still be on holidays, but the department is clear that students are required at school from the first day unless there is a school-approved exemption from attendance.

The Parent Choice option on Compass is not an approved exemption. It is only a statement indicating that you have kept the child away from school. As a school, we are seeking greater attendance for students. Without attending school, students cannot learn. Without learning, this only creates future problems of poor academic results, disengagement, and disciplinary and social disconnect.

I want all students to achieve their best and develop as strong learners and wonderful citizens in the future. We are dedicated to the success of each student. Attendance is one of those measures for success.

College Swimming Carnival 2026

This year, our swimming carnival will be held once again at Oak Park Sports and Aquatic Centre on Friday 20th February. The event will be for only our Year 7 students and competitors from our other secondary year levels.

Mr Margaris, the College Sports Coordinator, is finalising the swimming program and information will be sent out to families regarding the day. If you have any questions about the program, please contact your campus office.
