Primary Interschool Sport Newsletter

Round 1 vs Yarrambat A (20th February)

Welcome to PVCC Press! Each week, a team of reporters from our Year 5 & 6 students are producing a newsletter with all the highlights from the week’s primary interschool sport action.

Cricket

Jadon

It was a sunny day here on the pitch at PVCC. We went up against one of our biggest rivals, Yarrambat Primary School. A lot of their players were new to the team. When the cricket game started, our batters went first. They hit a lot of sixes and fours. Gunvir did a great job batting. PVCC got 4 wickets and Yarrambat got 1 wicket. When the scores came out, PVCC had won! The scores were 120 to 95 in PVCC’s favour. We said our three cheers, congratulated Yarrambat on a good effort, then we packed the wickets and bats away. It was a great game to start the year off with, well done team!

Rounders

Abi

On the 20th of February, the PVCC Rounders team had their first game of the year, and it was quite a tough game. We versed Yarrambat A, and unfortunately lost 16 to 8. PVCC batted first, and the first three people to bat sadly got out, specifically when running home. Next, it was Yarrambat’s turn to bat, and they ended up getting 5 home and 2 out. Our teamwork while fielding was great this inning. In the next inning, the tables turned in comparison to when we initially batted. Holly was the first to bat, and she started strong. Following her footsteps with strong batting came Dinu. Susana was next, then after her came Grace, who hit the ball out of the park. Because Grace smashed it with batting, Holly, Dinu, Susana, and Grace herself were able to get home, giving PVCC 4 runs, which was a good change as to the first inning. Now Yarrambat was batting, and they managed to get a whopping 7 people home, and 2 people out. This put more pressure on us to score. During this inning, our team was able to organise themselves very well while fielding. Soon enough, the fifth inning arrived, with PVCC batting, and while two people got out, 4 people got home. Then Yarrambat batted, and they got 4 people home, and 3 out, resulting in a final score of 16 to 8. Though we lost, we were able to play like a well-oiled machine – working together smoothly.

Girls match

Today was such a good day for a game — sunny, warm, and everyone already buzzing before we even started. Plenty Valley was up against Yarrambat, and honestly, we kicked things off strong. We got the ball straight away and scored the first two points like it was nothing.

Our defence was solid, and the teamwork was actually really good. Mila was everywhere — passing, directing people, setting things up. You could tell she knew exactly what she was doing. Everyone was hungry for the ball, and no one hesitated to shoot when they had the chance.

When the second half started, we scored again almost instantly. Mila kept organising the team so she could pass without someone right on her. One thing we definitely need to work on is rebounds, but apart from that, the effort was there the whole time.

Yarrambat started scoring a bit more in the second half, but we stayed in front the entire game. The last few minutes were intense — everyone was pushing hard to finish strong and keep the lead.

Before we knew it, the game was over, and we won 44–21.

Boys match

Right after the girls finished their match, it was the boys’ turn to take on Yarrambat.  The start wasn’t the best for us. The other team scored first, and it kind of threw us off a bit. Miller had a really good moment though — he was about step but somehow passed the ball just in time. The whole game honestly felt like the opposite of the girls’ one. Instead of us leading, it stayed pretty much tied for ages. We got a few free throws, and Malachi and Levi were playing really strong defence. But then Yarrambat pulled ahead by five, and rebounds were definitely something we struggled with.

When the second half started, they scored again, but the boys suddenly were way more hungry for the ball. Tom stood out heaps — he was super communicative to everyone and keeping the team organised. At one point the game got really intense, even though we were still behind. You could see the boys trying their absolute best and actually working together.

In the end, we lost 23–53, but the effort was there the whole time.

Volleyball

Megan

Welcome to the first volleyball game of 2026. We are ready to play, we are versing Yarrambat. Let’s get started. We have started a good first game. It is so exciting and this is only the first week of interschool sports and we are crushing it. Yarrambat is very competitive today, they are so hard to beat, we are on six points and they’re on ten points. Our players have such a great attitude though, because at PVCC we are Christ’s image bearers. We strive for excellence and Nurture godly character. That is my favourite value at school, back to the game, Yarrambat has won the first set so great teamwork, we are catching up we’re on seven points and we are going great. This is my first report this year, what a great day! In the end Yarrambat won both the boys & girls match, but we should be proud of how we played.

Hot Shots

The PVCC Press reporter for the Hot Shots team was away during our match against Yarrambat.

The PVCC boys and girls teams both clean swept the Yarrambat side, wining both their matches 15-0 in sets.
