Principal News

It was lovely to see many of you yesterday at PST Conferences yesterday! I hope you found it to be a good opportunity to share important information with your child’s 2026 teacher.

School Council elections

Just another reminder and call out for parents to consider joining school council. Parents on school councils provide important viewpoints and have valuable skills and a range of experiences and knowledge that can help inform and shape the direction of the school. Those parents who become active on a school council find their involvement satisfying and may also find that their children feel a greater sense of belonging. Some parents in the past have shared concerns about whether they know enough or need special skills to be on school council. Each member brings their own valuable skills and knowledge to the role, however, if they need support or training to successfully perform their duties, councillors may need to gain some new skills and knowledge which the school provides. It is important to have an interest in your child’s school and the desire to work in partnership with others to help shape the school’s future.

We have 5 vacancies for parents to join our School Council this year. We have moved to holding most meetings online this year to support members to attend from the comfort of the couch and to not have to think about childcare on those nights. To stand for election, you will need to arrange for someone to nominate and second you as a candidate in the parent category. Once the nomination form is completed (available from the me), please return it to me by the close of nominations on Monday 16th February by 4.00 p.m.

I would love to chat about the role if you are thinking about joining and are not sure what to do.

Food allergies

As a school we are always seeking to make all children feel safe in our care. One way we can do this is by reducing the exposure to some common allergens. Whilst we do not ban nut products at our school, we ask that you please consider this allergen when packing your child’s food for the day. We ask that families save Nutella, Peanut Butter and other nut products for consuming out of school hours to reduce the possibility of students with nut allergies encountering these products. We thank you in advance for your support with this request.

Swimming Carnival

Today we are holding our years 3-6 swimming carnival. Many of our students have been preparing for this for some time and were visibly excited this morning! This is our year 3 students’ first carnival, and we wish them a fun time. I will share highlights of the carnival in next week’s newsletter.

School Captains

At last week’s assembly we formally welcomed our school captains into their role. Their first responsibility of the year was to present badges to other student leaders which they did so awesomely. Congratulations to our new team!

Communication- who do I talk to?

You may be wondering who to approach if you have a concern or query about aspects related to how the school is operating. In our community we have several groups that form part of the communication chain at ENPS. We have Class Reps, the PFA, teaching staff, office staff, the leadership team and School Council. So, who do you approach if you have a question? To help guide you is a description of where to best direct queries to.

Parent Reps and Class Whats App groups:

These groups are for social queries and questions that you would like your parent rep to clarify with the classroom teacher or leadership. We know they are also great groups to organise get togethers, source items or arrange for help with pick-ups and drops offs amongst parents. The school has no affiliation or insight into the conversations taking place in these groups as they are for parents to keep in touch.

PFA:

This working party has a primary focus of connecting our community by facilitating events to bring families together.  They are also responsible for running fun events for students such as Walkathons, special lunches, icy pole days and discos. The PFA support school events such as working bees and graduation. The PFA are the people to contact if you have an idea for an event that you would like to run or support.

Classroom Teachers:

Your classroom teacher is the first person to talk to about any aspect of your child’s experience in the classroom. We encourage you to email your child’s teacher first to raise any classroom concerns to enable your teacher to work in partnership with you to address your concern.

Leadership Team:

The leadership team are available to respond if you need to raise a concern about the operation of our school. You can always email me directly if you have any concerns about the operation of our school and I will aim to respond within 48 hours. My email is: Tandreya.johnson@education.vic.gov.au
