Junior School Update

A word from the Head of Junior School
Dear Cobram AGS Junior School Community,
It has been an absolute privilege so far this year to wander around the school to visit our classrooms in my role as Head of Junior School. It’s been wonderful to see engaged students in calm and focused learning environments, settling into their routines and building positive connections with their peers, teachers and the broader school community.
Foundation
We extend gratitude to our Foundation families for taking the time to connect with Miss Dorian over the last few Wednesdays, and also the recent information session to share valuable insights and to discuss meaningful academic and social goals for their child’s future. These gatherings and connections are invaluable in strengthening our home-school partnerships and ensuring the best possible learning journey for every student. In a couple of weeks, the Foundation students will complete their first full week of school and it has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they form connections with their peers, teachers and families. Lunch orders and the canteen are just the best!
Year 1/2
Meanwhile, the Year 1/2s are on a quest to learn about the "olden days". I’m not sure what old means to a 6 and 7-year-old but I am pretty sure Mr Willett and myself qualify to be interviewed about our childhood. These are two of our larger classrooms, and it’s clear that the consistent use of engagement norms, established routines and explicit teaching strategies is having a powerful impact on student behaviour and engagement.
Years 3-6
There has been a real buzz around the school over the past fortnight, with the Year 3-6 students particpating in the Swimming Carnival and of course, the follow up Divisional Championships which took place earlier this week. It was inspiring to witness students showing resilience as they stepped out of their comfort zones, tackling swimming heats and unfamiliar swimming strokes for the length of the 50m pool! Courageous!
Looking ahead, we have some fantastic events coming up, including Harmony Day, the Foundation Taster Morning and Easter Bonnet parade. Our Lenten reflection will be held on Friday mornings. It’s a beautiful time for the school to come together to reflect and think about how we can help those in need and how we can contribute to building love and kindness in our community.
At last week’s assembly, we congratulated our first Vision for Learning award winners, who were recognised for demonstrating courageous values and attributes in their learning. I wonder who will receive the Collaborative Learner awards presented at our next assembly!
If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s learning or schooling here at Cobram AGS please don’t hesitate to message me on SEQTA Engage or organise a meeting face-to-face.

Assembly Celebrates Couragoeus Learners
This year, our school awards carry a renewed focus, celebrating the six areas of the AngliSchools Vision for Learning, which are: collaboration, purposeful, inquisitive, inclusive, courageous and connected.
At this week’s assembly, our Junior School teachers recognised students who exemplify what it means to be courageous learners. These students approach their learning with integrity, enthusiasm and perseverance, willingly embracing challenges and striving to do their best.
Congratulations to all of our award recipients!
Another highlight of the assembly was Mr Willett proudly presenting our Year 6 House Leaders with their leadership badges. The students have already made an excellent start to their roles, bringing great energy to Chapel, Assembly and the recent Swimming Carnival. We look forward to seeing their leadership continue to grow throughout the year.
