Art

What an amazing amount of work we have covered in the Art Room this semester.

It has been so lovely seeing our Prep students working on different skill based activities with enthusiasm and a large amount of confidence. The art room is now a familiar space for them and they are very comfortable taking on all the challenges that are an essential part of the art program. We are about to tackle 'real clay' in our annual ceramics unit, after much practice with the 'pretend' clay. I am confident of a fun and positive experience.....and possibly a Mother's Day bowl!

Our senior students began the year with a reflection on what ART means to them. Pictured are some of the responses. It was a wonderful confirmation of how valued and important the art program is to most of our students.

In keeping with Art Room tradition, the whole school embarked on another collaborative art mural for Harmony Day. The subject was Uniqueness and was reflected in Self portrait drawings. Arching across the display wall in the main corridor, is our rainbow of Harmony, a sight well worth visiting.

We are racing to the finishing line with works inspired by artists, Reggie Laurent, Tilde Grynnerup and Tim Burton. Keep an eye out for these incredible art works that will find there way into a display next term.

Enjoy your well earned rest everyone.

Happy Creating.

SCHULTÜTEN FOR FOUNDATION

What an exciting day it was for our Foundation students on Wednesday, 18th March when they received their ‘Schultüten’ from their Level 6 Buddies!

A ‘Schultüte’ is a colourfully decorated cone, filled with stationery items and small gifts, which all German children receive on their first day of school.

It is ‘fantastisch’ to be able to provide this special German tradition to all Foundation students at Rangeview. Thank you to the Level 6 Buddies who have assisted with decorating and presenting the cones to their new Buddies, and to our wonderful parent helpers who made the ‘Schultüten’ and lined the tops with crepe paper. Vielen Dank!

We trust your child thoroughly enjoyed receiving their ‘Schultüte’ and would like to thank our Foundation parents for supporting this special event, by providing the items for their child’s ‘Schultüte’.

Maths Specialist

It has been a wonderful start to the year in our new Mathematics Specialist room. Using the Building Thinking Classrooms approach, students have been collaborating in random groups, working at vertical whiteboards and sharing their ideas with one another. It has been fantastic to see students confidently having a go, discussing different strategies and learning from mistakes.

During our Start Up Program, students focused on developing a Growth Mindset, revisiting The Learning Pit, and exploring what it means to be a great mathematician. As part of this learning, every class contributed to a whole-school Growth Mindset wall display, including our Foundation students. This display will remain in the Mathematics Specialist room for the rest of the year so students can continue to refer to it and be reminded that challenge, effort and persistence are all important parts of learning.

Throughout the term, students have engaged in rich mathematical challenges that required them to think critically, apply different strategies and explain their reasoning to others. It has been wonderful to see students building confidence in sharing their ideas and recognising that there are often many different ways to solve a problem.

Families are invited to have a go at one of the challenges below together at home. Remember to try different strategies, keep a growth mindset, and if you find yourself at the bottom of The Learning Pit, don’t forget to ask your children for help!

Music

It has been a busy and exciting term in the Music Room, with students across the school developing their musical skills and exploring a range of instruments.

Our Foundation students have been discovering the wonderful world of music through singing, movement, and their first experiences with classroom percussion instruments. They have been learning how to keep a steady beat while experimenting with the different sounds made by instruments such as triangles, maracas, and tambourines.

Students in Levels 1 and 2 have been getting creative with rhythm through their “fruit salad” compositions. After learning to read and perform rhythms, students created their own rhythmic patterns inspired by different fruits and rehearsed playing them on tuned percussion instruments. It has been wonderful to see their creativity and confidence grow.

Levels 3 and 4 have been developing their ensemble skills while learning songs on the marimbas and xylophones. Students have been working together to play different parts within the music, learning how each part contributes to the overall sound of the group.

Our Levels 5 and 6 students have been learning to play the ukulele, building skills in chords and strumming patterns. As part of the much-loved Rangeview tradition, students also learnt a song to perform for their buddy classes.

Our Junior Choir, Senior Choir, and Senior Band have been rehearsing hard and gave wonderful performances on Harmony Day. We look forward to seeing the Level 4 Band and Rock Band make their debut performances in Term 2.

DigiTech

This term in Digital Technologies (DigiTech), our students have explored, problem-solved, and learned more about a range of digital systems, software and robots:

  • Foundation have been introduced to digital systems and using iPads as learning tools.
  • Level 1 & 2 have explored hardware and software, constructing their own Paper Laptops.
  • Level 3 & 4 have deepened their understanding of algorithms, working with Sphero robots.
  • Level 5 & 6 have used Tinkercad to explore 3D CAD software; creating and building their own worlds.

We hope families have a fantastic holiday break, and look forward to students continuing their learning in Term 2.

AUSLAN

It has been a fantastic start to learning Auslan at Rangeview. Students are enjoying being exposed to a different way of communicating. They are practising using their hands and facial expressions to connect with peers and are working on keeping their voices off whilst doing so.

We have learnt general greetings and manners, and are working on putting it all together to have simple conversations. Students are beginning to confidently use phrases such as "Hello, how are you?", "My name is...", "I'm good/happy/sad", "please" and "thank-you".

Level 1-3 students have learnt to fingerspell the alphabet, using this to spell their name and names of their peers.

We have learnt signs for colours, farm animals, family members and things around school. We have learnt songs such as I can sign a rainbow and Old MacDonald had a farm. It is exciting to start to see students putting signs together. For example, using the sign for yellow and duck to say "I can see a yellow duck."

We look forward to continuing to explore more Auslan signs to use in the school community and seeing how we can expand our conversation skills.

PE

What a massive Term 1 it’s been in PE, with plenty happening across the whole school and some fantastic learning on display.

We kicked things off with our major carnivals, including the Level 4–6 Swimming Carnival, the Level 3-6 House Athletics Carnival, and our Whole School Cross Country. A big thank you to all staff and families for your support across these events, it makes a huge difference and helps create such a great atmosphere for our students.

Our Level 3–6 students have spent the term developing their Athletics skills, working across a range of track and field events. There’s been a strong focus on technique, effort, and improving personal bests, which was great to see carry over into the House Athletics Carnival. A huge congratulations to Team Arbor for an outstanding effort, taking out the overall win across all carnivals this term, a fantastic achievement!

In the junior school, our Foundation-Level 2 students have been working hard on their Fundamental Motor Skills (FMS). We’ve focused on key skills such as running, jumping, hopping, throwing, and catching, with students building confidence, coordination, and control through a range of fun and engaging activities.

Run Club has also been a highlight, with over 450 students getting involved across the term. It’s been great to see so many students up and active before school, building their fitness and showing real commitment each week.

We’re also incredibly proud of our swimmers who recently competed at the Regional Finals. To reach that level is a fantastic achievement, and they represented the school brilliantly.

Overall, it’s been a great start to the year in PE, with lots of participation, effort, and improvement across all year levels. We’re looking forward to carrying this momentum into Term 2 with our District Cross Country, Winter Inter-school sports & Level 3/4 Hoop Time.
